Hello darlings! Summer is here, and you know what that means… it's tutu season! 💃
As a Longbridge girl myself, I'm absolutely buzzing about the epic summer ballet line-up we've got going on. From outdoor classes under the summer sun to workshops that will make your inner prima ballerina shriek with excitement, we've got it all. So, get your leotards ready, grab your mates, and get ready to twirl into summer! 💖
Step into the Spotlight: The Top Ballet Delights This Summer
This year, Longbridge is bringing the summer ballet vibes, with something for everyone. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just dipping your toes into the world of ballet, there's an opportunity to pirouette into something new! Here are my top picks for the summer ballet season:
1. "Ballet in the Park": Embrace the Great Outdoors!
It doesn't get more quintessentially summer than ballet in the great outdoors! Picture this: a sprawling green space bathed in golden sunshine, the gentle breeze whispering through the trees, and you, dancing with a joyous heart under the open sky. Well, hold on to your tutus, because that's exactly what you can expect at Ballet in the Park, taking place every Saturday throughout July in Longbridge Park.
What to Expect:
- Free Drop-in Sessions: Perfect for families, kids, and anyone wanting to experience ballet in a relaxed and fun setting. Get ready to groove with your inner child, with basic ballet moves and stretches led by passionate and friendly instructors.
- Weekend Workshops: Want to delve deeper into a specific ballet style? There are weekend workshops throughout July exploring a range of styles, from classical ballet to contemporary and even pointe technique. These are a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, develop your skills, and get some serious ballet time in the fresh air.
- "Sunset Dance Parties": A special addition this year, these are our very own summer ballet "rave" sessions! Don't worry, you won't need to know any fancy moves. Think joyful free movement, disco tunes, and the chance to let loose and have fun with a vibrant community of ballet lovers. This is our ultimate "let-your-hair-down" session!
2. The "Twirl-a-thon": Longbridge's Ultimate Dance Fundraiser!
Looking for a way to combine your passion for dance with giving back to the community? Look no further than The Twirl-a-thon, a weekend-long extravaganza happening in August! We'll be transforming the Longbridge Town Centre into a vibrant dance floor, and YOU can help raise money for local charities while enjoying the ultimate danceathon experience.
Here's how to get involved:
- Team Up & Dance!: Grab your friends, colleagues, or even your family and form a dance team! Whether you prefer a contemporary flair, a classical ballet ensemble, or want to go full-on jazz-funk, your team's creative expression is celebrated!
- Individual Entries: If you'd prefer to go solo, don't hesitate! We have spaces for individual dancers of all skill levels. This is all about embracing the love of dance and having fun together.
- Sponsor a Dancer: Even if you can't take part in the dance-a-thon, you can still be a part of this fabulous event by sponsoring a dancer. Every contribution, big or small, helps to make a difference in our local community!
3. Summer Ballet Intensives: Take Your Training to the Next Level!
Looking to really amp up your ballet skills this summer? Longbridge Academy is offering a series of intensive workshops specifically tailored for intermediate and advanced dancers. These are led by renowned instructors with years of experience, offering the chance to learn advanced technique, perfect your artistry, and prepare for upcoming auditions or performances.
Intensive Highlights:
- "Classical Ballet Intensive": Focuses on mastering fundamental ballet techniques like turnout, port de bras, and advanced jumps, while also exploring classic ballet repertoire and choreography.
- "Contemporary Choreography Workshop": Dive into the expressive and contemporary world of ballet, developing fluid movements, innovative choreography, and personal artistry.
- "Pointe Technique Bootcamp": For experienced pointe dancers, this bootcamp delves into pointe technique, strengthening, and artistry. It’s the perfect way to refine your technique and gain confidence in your pointe work.
Beyond the Studio: Let's Get This Summer Party Started!
It’s not all about classes and workshops. This summer, let's embrace the whole #tutusummer vibe!
Here's how you can embrace your inner ballet ballerina:
1. "Tutu Thursdays": It's all about the tutu!
Every Thursday throughout the summer, The Longbridge Deli is hosting "Tutu Thursdays," the ultimate spot to show off your fab tutu wardrobe (or rock a casual daytime version, no judging!). It’s a celebration of all things girly and a fantastic opportunity to meet other ballet lovers while enjoying a delicious breakfast or a fabulous brunch with your pals.
2. "Ballet Movie Nights": From classics to new favourites
Forget popcorn and sodas, this is a ballet-themed movie night! We’ll be meeting up in Longbridge at The Silver Screen Cinema on select nights, embracing everything from the iconic "Black Swan" and the timeless "The Red Shoes" to contemporary ballet movies. It's the perfect opportunity to curl up, unwind, and enjoy the artistry of ballet on the big screen.
3. "Tutu Shopping Spree": Gear Up for Summer Ballet!
It’s no secret I love a good shopping spree! But this summer, let’s combine our ballet passion with retail therapy! The Longbridge Town Centre has an array of shops bursting with amazing dancewear options, whether you’re looking for new leotards, shoes, tutus, or cute ballet-inspired outfits.
