As a huge fan of everything ballet, and particularly loving the fun of summer dance, I’ve been soaking up the season and finding some amazing things to share with you guys! Madrid has some fantastic studios, workshops, and performances that are perfect for getting your ballet fix, no matter what your level or experience.
So, put on your brightest leotard, grab a glass of sangria, and get ready to dive into this ultimate guide to summer ballet fun in Madrid!
The Power of Pink! ?
Look, everyone knows that summer screams sunshine and that means my go-to colour is pink! And if you haven’t noticed, ballet has had a real pink revival. Ballet pinks are like my go-to look this summer. Pink and glitter, baby, for that summer shimmer! Let’s face it: Pink just looks fantastic against that Spanish sunshine!
And, who can forget the Royal Ballet's 2023 "Giselle" revival? I was blown away by the iconic “Madrigale" dance sequence with those glorious pastel pinks in the backdrop, alongside those perfect, fluttering tutus! Chef's Kiss ? I mean, you’d think I was still at the show with all my giggling!
(Speaking of "Giselle", the Madrid Royal Ballet have some stunning performances throughout the summer, including their legendary interpretation of "The Sleeping Beauty", which opens in July, with those amazing fairytale costumes. Check it out, you won’t regret it! And with so many different types of ballet on show, there's definitely a performance out there for everyone! ✨)
A Summer Of Styles:
Here's the lowdown on the most exciting summer ballet trends that I've spotted so far. Take notes, babes, this is a serious list of dance must-haves!
1. Disco Fever: Dance like it’s 1978! ?
Forget about that graceful classical stuff! Get ready to bring some high-energy disco grooves to your dance! The latest trend sweeping the dance scene is disco ballet, where contemporary styles mix with vibrant, dynamic moves and a whole lot of personality! Imagine swirling tutus, catchy rhythms, and a ton of fun. This trend is literally all about having fun!
Where to learn this?
You know how much I love the energy of Madrid and finding unique, super fun classes. One of my favourites is the ‘Groove & Grind’ class at “Escuela de Danza Moderna”. I've had a blast experimenting with their amazing moves. Don’t forget the platforms! ?
*(Psst: Check out their social media, too, it’s all super fun!) *
2. Neon Nights: Shine Bright ?
Embrace those neon colours – bright pink, dazzling lime, or shocking blue. We’re all about creating an incredible visual spectacle this summer. The key is to make a bold statement, no matter if you’re a beginner or pro. These neon colours literally give those leotards and tutus an extra level of sass.
Where to Find Neon Dreams
- Madrid's legendary “Teatro Real” has been pushing the boundaries with its stunning, futuristic set design, making this year's productions a real highlight! The summer shows feature striking costumes in vibrant neon, that totally transport you into an electric world!
- If you're looking for the best neon ballet supplies, “Flamenco Danza” has everything! Don't be shy about embracing those bolder shades, and let your neon style light up the stage.
3. Tropical Dreams: Island Vibes ?️
Imagine those breathtaking beaches, palm trees swaying, and cool summer nights! I love the influence that travel and exploration have on the ballet scene! With this trend, we're adding a tropical flair to our dancing. Think flowy fabrics, shimmering patterns, and moves inspired by nature and sunshine.
Where to Catch Tropical Feels:
- “Ballet Flamenco” has really embraced this trend. Its dance shows fuse contemporary ballet with vibrant, tribal-inspired elements, giving them a magical tropical vibe!
- Want to learn some moves? Head to “Bailando con las Estrellas” in the heart of Madrid. Their "Summer Rhythms" workshops are brilliant and let you tap into those playful, joyful dance vibes!
Don’t forget your sunshine selfie! ☀️
It’s a summer tradition for me to share a perfect snap on my Instagram. We’re in Madrid! Capture the vibe by finding an outdoor studio in the Parque del Retiro for a little sunset ballet pose. Trust me: A pink tutu against those bright sunset colours looks incredible. Don't forget your pink hair scrunchie for a classic, cute vibe! ?
Learning in the Summer Sun ☀️
1. Ballet Bootcamp! (Get fit and fabulous) ?
Ballet training is always fun! (And always makes you feel amazing!) Summer is the perfect time to work those muscles. Imagine long stretches in the sunshine, invigorating bar workouts, and the excitement of mastering a brand-new pirouette. Ballet bootcamps can really be a total game-changer!
My recommendation: The “Estudio de Ballet de Madrid” runs a super fun, outdoor Bootcamp during July. They're known for their challenging yet rewarding classes, where you can really push yourself in a supportive atmosphere!
2. Creative Choreography: Let Your Dance Speak ?
Ballet is an art, and exploring new choreography is super exciting. In summer, so many studios offer intensives and workshops with amazing teachers from all around the world. You can learn from the pros and really develop your unique style. This is the perfect chance to explore your individuality and express yourself through movement.
Summer Dance Intensive Spots:*
- The “Instituto de Danza” always has an epic Summer Intensive program. I hear they're getting a super renowned ballerina from the American Ballet Theatre to lead some master classes.
- If you want a break from the hustle and bustle, you can find great workshops in the surrounding countryside! It's a super chilled atmosphere with great studios and scenic, inspiring landscapes. “La Danza del Bosque” hosts regular summer classes. Think forest walks, peaceful music, and some lovely summer workshops in beautiful, countryside surroundings.
