2024 Summer Ballet Fun for Wishaw

Hey, ballet bunnies! 🐰 Emma here, ready to take you on a whirlwind tour of everything pink, sparkly and ballet-tastic happening this summer in our gorgeous little corner of Scotland: Wishaw. Summer's finally arrived, the sun is shining (well, mostly), and you know what that means… IT'S TUTU SEASON!

For me, summer is the best time to dance. The air is warm, the music is bright, and everything just feels so free. So grab your leotard and tights (don't forget your cute ballet bag!), and let's dive into this epic summer of ballet fun.

First things first, let's get those disco moves working! The Wishaw Community Centre is hosting a Summer Disco Ballet workshop series this July, taught by the fabulous Miss Daisy. Imagine shimmering spandex, funky hair, and learning some killer routines to iconic disco hits! It's the perfect way to shake off the winter cobwebs and get your creative juices flowing. Not all summer ballet is about high-energy fun. Sometimes you need a little calm and grace in your life, and what better way to do that than with classical ballet? The Wishaw Dance Academy is offering a special Summer Swan program. You'll be guided through a journey of classic ballets, from Swan Lake to Giselle, learning some of the most iconic choreography. Think graceful moves, elegant costumes, and plenty of swan lake magic. Don't worry if you're not a seasoned ballerina - the academy caters to all levels, so beginners are absolutely welcome! • Edinburgh Royal Ballet: Grab a train and spend a day soaking up the dazzling performances at the Scottish Ballet, which will be hosting their annual summer gala featuring a dazzling collection of contemporary and classical ballets. Plus, Edinburgh's charming Old Town is the perfect place to explore for a bit of post-ballet culture.
• Glasgow's Ballet Scene: Across the border lies Glasgow, a city buzzing with ballet activity! Check out the Scottish Opera, which is offering a thrilling summer season featuring some truly remarkable productions, as well as workshops and classes open to all ages.
• Ballet Beyond: If you're looking for something a little different, a trip to the magnificent St. Andrews further up the coast is a must. There are plenty of exciting dance studios and classes where you can discover styles beyond classical, including hip hop, contemporary, and even Bollywood.

But what's summer without a bit of festival fun? There are plenty of events in and around Wishaw offering outdoor dance experiences:

• Wishaw’s Annual Summerfest: This iconic event usually boasts a vibrant arts program, and this year there will surely be some gorgeous ballet performances by local troupes.
• The Scottish Dance Festival: Just a little drive from Wishaw is the Scottish Dance Festival, a sprawling celebration of everything dance, including breathtaking outdoor performances, workshops, and late-night parties!
