Pink Tutu Post #284: A Glimpse into the Wonderful World of Ballet in 1856!

Oh my dears! I’m Emma, your very own pink-tutu-wearing ballet enthusiast, bringing you another dazzling dive into the fabulous history of ballet, right here on www.pink-tutu.com. Today we’re waltzing our way back to the year 1856 – a year that was bubbling with ballet magic! Buckle up, lovelies, for a journey through tutus, tiaras, and those gorgeous theatrical wonders that captivated audiences over 150 years ago.

It’s fascinating to peek into the world of ballet back then, just a whisper before the whirlwind of change that the 20th century would bring. I bet you’re wondering what tutus looked like, what dances stole the spotlight, and what shoes those graceful dancers twirled upon, aren’t you?

Imagine, if you will, my darling readers, a world where ballet wasn’t just on stage, it was in the air. Yes, the grand art of ballet had become utterly charming and refined – an elegant reflection of the era. This era, my loves, saw the rise of ballerina-mania! Ballet was everywhere – at theatres, grand ballrooms, even amidst bustling city squares! It’s what inspires my street ballet routines! I always feel so alive bringing the magic of ballet to everyone.

The Ballet Shows: An Encore for History!

In 1856, London's theatre scene was bursting with ballet brilliance. At the Royal Opera House, which still makes my heart sing today, the spotlight was shining on productions like “Le Diable à Quatre” and “Faust” – those enchanting narratives wrapped in delicate movements that make every ballerinas heart thrum with delight. Can you imagine the excitement of a live performance? Those incredible costumes, the exquisite melodies - Oh, to be whisked away to another world, to step into those magical stories!

Meanwhile, in Paris, they were bewitched by “La Fille de Mme. Angot,” an elegant piece of pure beauty that filled stages with those delicate movements that bring my heart to life! It was a year for ballet lovers, everywhere.

Ballet Fashion: The Peak of Elegance!

The fashion of the time – oh, how perfectly it aligned with the magic of ballet!

You could have easily imagined your favourite ballerinas dancing in delicate tutus that reached below the knees, the softest tulle catching the stage lights, just like the glorious creations of the Marie Taglioni era!

I can't get over the grandeur of the long, sweeping sleeves, adorned with lace and ruffles, * or the *pointed collars. My, they knew how to accentuate those long and slender silhouettes, like daisies bursting into full bloom in springtime!

They wore slight but beautiful ribbons around the crown – not just any ribbon but ribbon that sparkled! Just like in my personal street show performances!

Now, you might be asking yourself, dear readers, “Emma, where did you find this amazing fashion info?”

Well, it’s thanks to my latest escapade in my time travel journey – yes, another trip to the glorious past. It's what we all do to make the past present for all of us here at pink-tutu! We do the most extraordinary things and travel across time just to give everyone a chance to revel in this amazing artform.

I recently journeyed back to 1856 with my troupe – it's my way of bringing these iconic ballet moments to the street while spreading our message of pink tutus and all things dazzling. We even found a magnificent book of fashion plates. The detail of the outfits is incredible - and it filled with images of ballgowns and fashionably-dressed ballerinas! I bet those clothes had a magic touch of their own!

Now, the truth of the matter is - I found it incredibly hard to find that pink tulle back in 1856, so you can see the joy of seeing the fabulous pink tulles that we wear now, my dears!

Street Shows, Ballet Performances - And All the World's a Stage!

Speaking of bringing a splash of pink to the street, 1856 was a time of enchantment for dancers everywhere! Can you imagine, sweet readers? They waltzed through gardens, promenades, even grand squares! The streets were alive with their beautiful performances. It truly was a moment in time where all the world was a stage.

The very grand squares became stages for impromptu ballet displays. And while our street performances in the here and now are about free expression, and the joy of sharing ballet, can you just imagine how magical the dancing in these beautiful settings must have felt!

My friends! This year of ballet has truly sparked something special in me! What about you, my sweet ballet loves? Let me know what’s sparked your love for all things tutu.

And remember, every time you step into your pink tutu, my dears, you’re carrying a touch of that enchanting ballet magic!

Love, Emma
