Pink-Tutu Post #360: A Twirling Tour of 1932: Ballet's Glittering Glamour!
Darling dancers, you know I just adore taking you all on a whirlwind trip through time with me. My passion is bringing ballet to the masses - every single one of you! Let's raise those pink tutus high, you beautiful souls! And prepare to be dazzled by the year 1932 - what a fantastic era for ballet!
It's been quite a week. Imagine - my latest street ballet performance on a rainy Wednesday? My fellow Derbyshirians were mesmerised - even the local greengrocer, Mr. Higgins, started tapping his toes! Now, for some much-needed time travel - off I go to 1932, just a twirl and a flutter of my tutu later, here we are!
Oh, this decade is just the epitome of fabulousness - think flowing chiffon gowns, dazzling diamante headbands and shoes that could make you sing! Speaking of shoes - have you seen the "toe shoes" these dancers are using? Imagine my surprise, they were all satin! That just adds another touch of exquisite luxury, don't you think? It was also this year, 1932, that the great ballerinas started experimenting with the shape of the tutu, with those soft, graceful tulle layers giving the dancer so much movement, like a fluttering flower petal!
Ballets that Blew Us Away!
The world was graced by the most dazzling of ballet performances in 1932! Oh, imagine a world where Sergei Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes were just as alive as the latest fashion trends? They were simply magical! Their performances were like a sparkling mirage in a sea of pink - their "The Rite of Spring", which was a sensation a few years earlier, is still on people's minds! Diaghilev's vision was simply captivating.
And in London? Well, I bet my very favourite pink tutu you could find a very sophisticated ballet audience watching the wonderful Marie Rambert at the Mercury Theatre - what a dream to go back in time and be part of her ballet audience! You'd be sure to catch "Les Biches" - simply divine, and a piece which was actually choreographed for a Paris audience just five years prior to our very own year in this history lesson. Ballet is a truly global art form!
But there was more on the stage - those daring dancers in the Royal Ballet, a true haven for aspiring ballerinas, were presenting a captivating "The Sleeping Beauty." Oh, how they graced the stage! This version, choreographed by the ever so brilliant Nicholas Sergeyev, has endured the test of time. It was truly a treat for everyone who got to watch it - and even had its debut at Covent Garden just before the 1930s - isn't that just divine!
The Glamour and the Glitter of 1932
Oh, darling dancers, let's not forget the glorious world of fashion! It was all about sophistication - think sleek, fitted evening dresses with dramatic trains - pure fairytale vibes, and just a dash of glamour! But it wouldn't be a fashionista's dream without some head-turning accessories, wouldn't you agree? This is the year everyone fell in love with long strands of pearls, glittering diamond brooches, and the feather boa. It was pure luxury. As for ballet, let's just say it was all about beautiful lines and fluid movement - and let's not forget the most luxurious outfits! Silks, satins and velvet, all perfectly tailored - so incredibly inspiring for the ballerinas, don't you think?
Time to Fly Back to the Present
But it's time to step back into the real world. As I dust the sequins off my pink tutu and pack my trusty ballet bag, my mind keeps flitting back to 1932 - the era of fabulous ballet and breathtaking style!
Keep dancing, darling dancers - wear your hearts on your sleeve and let the world watch you dance! And never forget to embrace that touch of sparkle in every step. Just like the dancers of 1932, let's show the world how graceful, how powerful, and how magical we can be - with a tutu, of course!
Until our next adventure in ballet history!
Your pink tutu-loving ballerina,
Emma
