Pink Tutu Post #444: 2016 - A Year of Ballet Bliss!
Hello, darlings! It's Emma from Pink-Tutu.com, your go-to source for all things pink and pirouette! Today, I'm whisking us back in time, all the way to 2016! It feels like a lifetime ago, doesn't it? So grab a cuppa and settle in, because this year in ballet was a truly magical one!
Now, 2016 was the year my street ballet performances really took off, which is quite a feat considering I was funding my time travel with it. That meant all my trips to the past were truly authentic. No fancy carriages for me - just me and my trusty pink tutu, shimmying my way through history!
So, what was happening in the world of ballet in 2016? Oh, darling, it was an absolute whirlwind!
On the World Stage:
- The Royal Ballet was absolutely smashing it with their production of Manon. That gorgeous story with its sweeping emotion and heart-wrenching scenes – absolutely brilliant. I loved the exquisite costumes, too. And speaking of costume design, the English National Ballet gave us an incredible Giselle with some seriously stunning tutus - the perfect mix of classic and contemporary.
- Over in Paris, the Paris Opera Ballet was doing the Sleeping Beauty in such an enchanting way, a real fairytale brought to life. The sets and the costumes, divine!
- Meanwhile, across the pond in New York, American Ballet Theatre had Swan Lake, the absolute classic. Talk about a dance filled with passion, tragedy, and, of course, gorgeous tutus.
- Let's not forget New York City Ballet, those gorgeous swans again! Swan Lake was everywhere in 2016. Did everyone suddenly feel like a graceful bird? Perhaps, perhaps...
And the Trendsetters:
2016 was the year of the tutu explosion! The dance fashion scene was bubbling over with creativity. Oh my, it was fabulous! From the opulent ball gowns of Manon to the soft ethereal beauty of Giselle, there was a tutu style for everyone. I spotted some amazing examples of the classical romantic tutus on all the ballerinas, with the frills and tiers dancing and swishing with every movement.
Now, while tutus were absolutely ruling, it wasn’t all frills and flounces! Street ballet had exploded! People were taking their love of dance beyond the stage and into the streets. There were pop-up flash mobs, ballet battles, and even a whole Ballet for the People movement! Talk about breaking boundaries! And it's just plain gorgeous to watch dancers on the streets, expressing themselves with freedom and artistry!
My Top Fashion Finds:
This year was also a fashion-lover's dream. Designers were incorporating ballet aesthetics in all sorts of fun and inventive ways!
- You just couldn't escape the influence of tutus on ready-to-wear. I remember how delighted I was to find tulle skirts in every colour of the rainbow on the high street. And ballet flats? Don’t get me started on those, a staple in any ballet enthusiast’s wardrobe.
- Ballet shoes became a seriously hot item too, both the traditional ones with the ribbon ties and also sleek, contemporary styles perfect for everyday.
- But let's be real, nothing beats the glamour of a classic pink tutu, and the comeback of the pink tutu in 2016 made my little ballet-loving heart sing! You saw them everywhere - at the theatre, at fashion shows, even worn by street dancers - pink tutus were everywhere, reminding us of the magical world of ballet.
Oh, darlings, it was such a joyous year for ballet. If I wasn’t wearing my pink tutu and performing street ballet in Derbyshire, you’d have found me in the theatre soaking it all up! And it’s still giving me inspiration.
Here’s to a pink-tastic future filled with tutus and beautiful movement!
Don’t forget to let me know what your favourite part of the ballet year 2016 was!
Stay stylish! Stay sassy! Stay pink!
