My recent journey started in the bustling centre of London where, you guessed it, I was a part of a fabulous street ballet flashmob. Just imagine – a wave of tutus, twirling and leaping around Trafalgar Square, all of us sharing our passion and a joyous reminder that ballet can be for everyone! First up, it's the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden! I mean, how can you not love this historic place? It’s just magical! Their production of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ is pure visual delight! I even saw the Queen sporting a magnificent rose pink tutu, a fashion statement if I’ve ever seen one. It made me want to buy every pink tutu ever designed!
Speaking of magnificent, at Sadler’s Wells Theatre, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater takes the stage with their electrifying, explosive, and passionate choreography! They really push boundaries, challenging expectations about what a ballet should be – absolutely phenomenal!
Of course, there's always something special going on at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow! They’re currently dazzling everyone with their own spectacular take on Swan Lake. This one’s pure classical ballet with breathtaking scenery and costume design, so beautiful and detailed it's a feast for the eyes.
It wouldn’t be a ballet year without the Paris Opera Ballet. You guessed it, they’re completely rocking it this year, their ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is simply spectacular. I loved the contemporary, powerful twist they’ve given it, especially the choreography, and the costumes are breathtaking – all about capturing the passionate story and fiery romance.
A Worldwide Waltz
Now, it’s not all about the big city performances. I’ve just travelled through to Derbyshire, England, and there’s a thriving ballet scene in every town and city, with some amazing dancers. And, oh, the creativity! Imagine a tutu workshop in a local bakery – yes, they're whipping up delicious tutus made entirely of sugary goodness! How sweet!
There are also amazing independent dance studios springing up across the country. Some even have their own incredible dance spaces which feel so unique, they remind me of secret fairytale gardens – completely whimsical, my darlings. It’s truly heart-warming to see so many aspiring ballet dancers getting involved, their dedication truly shines through.
