Pink-tutu.com - Post Number 69: September 9th, 1925 - A Time Travel Tutu Tale!

Hello darlings! Emma here, back from another fab time-traveling escapade, this time to the glamorous, glitzy, gloriously-gowned year of 1925! Now, picture this: September 9th, the sun shining down on Derby, but I’m in a different kind of sun - a glamorous one! I'm about to time-travel in my sparkling, shimmering, pink-est-of-pink, tutu! Let’s do this, babes!

A Glittery Blast From The Past

It’s true! September 9th, 1925! What was happening? What could be more amazing? Well, 1925 was all about flappers, flaunting, and a dash of naughtiness. Everyone was about the new bobbed hairstyles, dresses that stopped at the knee, and dancing till dawn. This was a year of jazzy melodies, a burgeoning movie industry, and …drum roll…the start of drag! I mean, drag was always around, but in this era, it was starting to blossom into the fantastic phenomenon we know and love today. Think Josephine Baker strutting her stuff, the vaudeville acts reaching new heights, and women trying out menswear – an early peek into the future of androgynous beauty.

A Journey Through Time

Now, I may be biased, but I believe pink was practically invented for this fabulous time. Imagine, all the pastel pink dresses in the Art Deco shops, sparkling and shining with all their glorious, un-subtle decadence! It's basically the perfect match for a shimmering, iridescent pink tutu.

Oh, but you’re probably wondering what was going on with the drag shows in 1925, right? Let me tell you, babes, there was more than just sequins. While some of it may sound tame today, for those times, it was radical. Remember the era's ‘masculinity’ and the constraints of those rigid expectations. To stand on stage as a performer, pushing the boundaries and challenging those norms, was absolutely revolutionary.

Let's take a trip back to the Palace Theater in London, shall we? They were showcasing a stunning performance called "The Blue Moon Follies" – filled with breathtaking choreography and some outrageously fun outfits. And I swear I could've worn my tutu in that show – the dazzling blues, sparkling silver sequins…it just had the air of the modern, the extravagant! And don’t even get me started on the flapper dances! They’d have you giggling till you’d need a pink tutu for a pillow!

And Now for a Bit of Glam…

Oh darling, my time travels wouldn't be complete without a good shopping spree. Just because this was a century ago, doesn't mean it wasn't packed full of the most wonderful outfits! From the art-deco dresses to the flapper dresses, the silk shawls and feather boas… the shops were a visual symphony of textures, shapes and colours that screamed "glamour."

Let's not forget about Liberty's, London – that fabulous department store which brought the Parisian chic right to our doorstep. It was where the elite bought their couture outfits that I'm absolutely sure, we all dream of owning now! Oh darling, it had everything…a bit like that gorgeous feeling you get when you step into that shop you love and just know you’re going to find a fabulous treasure!

The Time Traveler's Final Thoughts

Now, babes, I hope I've painted a pretty picture for you of this glamorous and vibrant period – and, of course, how much of an iconic year it was for our much-loved art form of drag. You see, fashion, beauty, and theatre all go hand in hand in that unique, captivating, dramatic flair that I just adore.

My pink tutu is just waiting for the next time I leap into history – and of course, the next adventure to share! Till then, keep on sparkling, be bold and remember to dance like no one's watching...and most of all, always have your fabulous pink tutu ready for that glamorous occasion! Catch you next month for another installment! You can always find me over on www.pink-tutu.com!
