Pink Tutu Time Travels: Post #101 - 5th May 1928 - A Night at the Follies!

Darling! Get ready for the most fabulous, frilly trip down memory lane because Emma's taking us back to 5th May, 1928, in the shimmering pink tutu of time travel! This month's adventure takes us to the Big Apple, where drag was sizzling on Broadway - and yes, I just had to be there, hun!

As I twirled through the pearly gates of 1928, my fabulous pink tutu was catching the glitter from every neon sign, dazzling the street with its sugary sweetness. My eyes, oh, they were widening at the sight of those grand old theaters, their brick faces etched with a hundred years of laughter, heartbreak, and of course, drama - so much drag drama, I'm practically buzzing!

That evening, I found myself in the opulent, star-spangled atmosphere of the Ziegfeld Follies! This was the legendary vaudeville show where every glittering dream in the Roaring Twenties danced to a tune of champagne and laughter. I just had to slip into a swanky velvet seat and prepare to be dazzled.

And dazzle they did, darlings! This night featured Evelyn Nesbit, the American pin-up model with the most glamorous legs you've ever seen! Her dancing was so fluid, it felt like silk slipping over a perfect, sparkling body! It reminded me so much of my dear friend Dolly's incredible performance last week at the Derby Drag Extravaganza. Those leg extensions are pure magic, doll!

Oh, but we couldn't forget the drag divas! There was Julian Eltinge in his glorious drag persona, pulling out all the stops, embodying every aspect of femininity with a flair and elegance that brought the house down! Imagine a stage draped in pearls and feathers, the shimmering costumes, and the faces that had audiences gasping with wonder - that's Eltinge! It was everything a drag queen could ever dream of.

It wasn't just about the fabulousness of the performers, though, dear. It was about their impact. You see, the Ziegfeld Follies helped pave the way for future drag artists by showcasing talent and allowing them to explore the freedom of performance and self-expression. You could truly see the power of drag taking root in the energy of the audience, who responded with thunderous applause. I, for one, felt a ripple of inspiration through my whole body!

As the night went on, I couldn't resist finding some fab 1928 outfits to complete my time travel wardrobe. Think: flapper dresses with sparkling embellishments, long beaded necklaces that reached all the way down to my fabulous pink tutu, and silk gloves that whispered elegance with every wave of my hand! Shopping in the Roaring Twenties was a dream come true!

However, darling, I wasn't just out for myself - I had a mission! You see, dear, as you know, my lifelong goal is to spread the fabulousness of pink tutus around the world. So, I took the time to have a chat with some lovely local drag artists. We shared stories about our drag family and the incredible experiences we were having in our time periods! Now, they were wearing those gorgeous feathers and sequins, but my little pink tutu certainly held its own!

Turns out, my pink tutu was the real star! It captured hearts, turned heads, and yes, even a couple of dapper gentlemen on the street did a little dance.

Even after a glorious night of shows, it was the small, genuine moments that made the time travel truly special. Like sharing a gossip session with a group of drag performers, laughing over a cup of tea in a local café, and watching the world go by, taking it all in. You see, dear, even a magical, pink time travelling tutu can’t change one simple fact - being a drag queen is a global language!

Back in my own time, I'm bursting with stories! Now, darlings, let's have a celebration! Gather around the mirror, dust off that shimmering pink tulle, and dance, shimmy, shake! Let the 1928 Follies be a reminder of the transformative power of drag and the unwavering strength of a pink tutu!

So remember, my sweet darlings, never stop dancing! The world is your stage, your pink tutu awaits, and we can all take inspiration from those who paved the way.

Till next time, stay fabulous!

Love,

Emma
