Welcome back, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, and oh my heavens, have I got a story for you!
This month, my magical pink tutu whisked me away to the roaring twenties, specifically 12th December, 1930. As a die-hard fan of all things glamorous, I just knew that this date would be brimming with fabulously flamboyant shenanigans. You see, it's the night before the real show stopper, a legendary extravaganza at the Moulin Rouge in Paris!
Imagine this: cobblestones gleaming under gaslights, the air abuzz with laughter and the intoxicating aroma of absinthe, and me, naturally, rocking my signature pink tutu and a feather boa that could rival the plumes of a phoenix. The excitement was palpable.
My first stop? A little bijou tea room with a pink-tinged, floral wallpaper – oh, how I do love a pink wall! I was treated to a heavenly afternoon tea of dainty finger sandwiches, warm scones, and an abundance of cakes. All enjoyed, naturally, while sporting my dazzlingly pink attire! Honestly, this pink tutu just gets more magical with every adventure.
As dusk settled, I made my way to the Moulin Rouge, its glittering façade catching my eye like a shimmering, pink dream come true! The queue for this spectacular event stretched around the block, a testament to its enduring appeal. The thrill was exhilarating!
Inside, the atmosphere was electric. Every corner was adorned with opulent décor – feathers, sequins, a rainbow of colour – truly the ultimate expression of Parisian chic!
I slipped into a velvet seat beside a dapper gentleman in a suit as crisp as a freshly pressed bill, and waited with anticipation for the spectacle to begin. And what a spectacle it was!
On the stage, an exquisite cabaret unfolded before my very eyes, a whirlwind of costumes, music and joyous revelry! The dancing girls, each one a dazzling masterpiece of feminine beauty, wore bejewelled dresses, silk stockings, and (of course!), those signature feather headdresses! I have to say, my inner drag queen was completely spellbound by the energy of these performers – true artistry in motion!
Amidst the dance, we were treated to a dazzling parade of characters! The highlight? The fabulous “Frenchy”, a charismatic male performer in full drag, a truly masterful illusion of beauty and grace! He sashayed, he strutted, he sashayed – what a vision! He commanded the stage with an air of complete and utter confidence. I swear, I even heard a few faint shouts of "Cher! Cher!" It was absolutely mesmerising!
Oh, did I mention the music? From hot jazz numbers to swoon-worthy ballads, it was all utterly enchanting, making me feel like I'd been whisked away to a wonderland of vibrant colour and sparkling light.
The entire performance left me absolutely breathless, my heart singing with pure joy. I’m here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, the magic of cabaret is an unmissable treat, even for a pink tutu-clad drag queen like myself!
This little detour into 1930s Paris was a masterclass in theatrical elegance, proving that drag, cabaret and artistry have a shared, rich, and vibrant history. And the magic is timeless, transporting me back to a golden era where imagination reigned supreme, and glitter was queen!
This trip reminds me, darlings, that even in the 1930s, people loved a good drag show. And isn't that just delicious?
Until next time, keep it pink, keep it sassy, and never be afraid to unleash your inner fabulousness, no matter where in time you find yourself. And remember, even if you can't travel in time in a pink tutu (yet!), a touch of pink can be incorporated into any outfit – a dash of colour can make any look supremely chic!
Head over to my blog, www.pink-tutu.com, to see the dazzling outfits I rocked on this adventure! I'm posting a whole album with all the looks. You can find out about my exciting upcoming drag performances on my blog too, as that’s how I fund my extraordinary time travel shenanigans.
And remember, lovelies, this is just the beginning! There's so much more drag queen history to explore!
Until next month, darlings, keep it fabulous!
Love and sequins,
Emma xx
