Pink Tutu Travels: Post #143 - 11th November, 1931 - The Big Apple!

Hello darlings! It's your girl Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind trip to the Big Apple itself, 1931 style! It's true, my loves, I'm talking New York City, where the glitz and glamour were already swirling like a delicious pink cocktail, just waiting to be sampled. And sample I did, my dears, every single last drop!

Now, let me tell you, November 11th, 1931, wasn't all about fancy dresses and dazzling shows (though, darling, trust me, it had its fair share of both!). You see, my darling little cherubs, it was Armistice Day - marking the anniversary of the end of the First World War. It was a poignant time for reflection, but, my darlings, even amidst the solemnity, the spirit of showmanship was bubbling up all over the city.

And that's where I come in, in my magnificent, magical pink tutu, ready to spread some joy, sparkle, and the pure, unadulterated love of performance. The moment I touched down in 1931 New York, the air crackled with energy. The bustling streets, the sights and sounds, everything was electrifying.

Now, imagine a world without mobile phones, where you couldn't just swipe through Insta to see what was happening! Oh my darling, the thrill of the unknown!

To find the juicy, vibrant world of drag in 1931, I needed to head to the most fashionable areas - Broadway and Harlem. In Harlem, my darlings, it was a kaleidoscope of culture. The music, the vibrant fashion, and of course, the incredible performers! Harlem was alive with jazz, blues, and everything in between, and you couldn't walk a block without encountering an infectious energy, a buzz that said, "Hey, darling, let's make some magic happen!"

In the world of theater, the stage was alight with some absolutely incredible performances. On this very date, November 11th, 1931, "The Cat and the Canary," a thrilling mystery, opened its doors at the Fulton Theatre in New York City, ready to captivate audiences. And my darling, if I had any spare time after shopping for my next tutu, I'd have booked myself a ticket to that, I promise!

Speaking of shows, imagine the incredible performers that graced those stages! The names I came across on those playbills, like Ethel Merman, Fred Astaire, and my personal darling, Fanny Brice, made me practically combust with excitement! Now, those ladies could sing! And let me tell you, dear, in those pre-recording days, that meant everything. The voice was everything, and those ladies delivered, my loves!

Now, I wouldn't be a true Pink Tutu Travel Blogger without mentioning my favorite part: the fashion, my dears, the FASHION! While 1931 in New York City was a world of long, flowing dresses, pearls, and gloves, those fashions were almost screaming for a pink tutu to burst onto the scene and inject some glorious, vibrant color and texture into the mix. Now, a ballerina in 1931, I imagine would be the epitome of chic elegance, an ethereal creature embodying pure beauty and grace. And darling, wouldnโ€™t you agree that's the kind of energy that would suit a Pink Tutu Travel Blogger perfectly?

I waltzed through the bustling avenues of 1931, my pink tutu whipping around me like a cloud of happiness, gathering whispers and compliments in equal measure. I had to show those ladies that a little pink, a little whimsy, and a touch of tutu magic could add so much to their wardrobe! Imagine a little tulle on the hem of a flapper dress, a pink ribbon wrapped around a sleek chignon - now wouldn't that have been divine!

My adventures didn't stop there, darling. I even popped into some speakeasies. Imagine the magic, the music, and the secret glamour of hidden underground bars! Now, wouldn't that have been the perfect place for a fabulous performance?

However, I'm afraid all good things must come to an end. I slipped back into my time travelling pink tutu, and before I could say, "Whimsical Wanderlust," I was whisked back to my little corner of Derbyshire, ready to spread the pink tutu love and share my 1931 New York tales with you darlings!
