Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post 173 - 5th May 1934 - A Trip to the Gayest Parisian Soirée!

Hello my darling divas, welcome back to the Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog! This month, I’m whisking us away to the fabulous city of Paris, specifically the 5th of May, 1934! Now, darlings, let me tell you, Paris in the ‘30s was all about jazz, art, and a dash of rebellious flair, just like us queens!

My oh my, when I popped into my pink time-travelling tutu this month, the energy was electric! Paris was teeming with life. I strutted out in my finest pink chiffon and tulle number (it’s a bit of a fashion icon, you know, the pink tutu, but let’s face it, darling, it just oozes confidence) and I was ready for a night to remember.

And remember it, I certainly did! I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the most incredible drag performance. The scene? The famous cabaret "Le Boeuf sur le Toit," an absolute hot spot in the heart of the Parisian scene. Now, it might be surprising to hear that this place was bursting with drag queens in 1934, but my darlings, let's face it, drag queens have always been pioneers! They’ve always embraced creativity and individuality, regardless of time, place, or societal norms.

The stage at "Le Boeuf" was ablaze with flamboyant performances. The queens strutted and shimmied in feathers and sequins, their faces adorned with extravagant makeup, they embodied the Parisian glamour of the time! A particular queen named 'Madame Antoinette,' her voice rich and resonant, sang jazz classics with an absolutely electrifying stage presence. Talk about a knockout performance, it was practically a fashion lesson all in itself! The entire room pulsed with energy, everyone, and I mean everyone, was swept away by the performances.

Let's be honest, my lovelies, what truly sets a Parisian night alight is not just the music or the glamorous costumes but the magic of the interaction, the feeling of belonging. That’s exactly what the cabaret felt like, a giant family filled with beautiful people, who embraced the night, the music, the drag, and above all, each other.

In fact, that’s exactly what Paris has always represented. A city where individuality flourishes, where creativity and passion come alive in all its magnificent and decadent glory. In this setting, you could be whomever you desired. As we sat sipping cocktails, the Parisian vibe enveloped us – a blend of carefree spirit, joie de vivre and, yes, a hint of naughtiness.

As much as I adore seeing those iconic queens perform, shopping and fashion have always been a queen's favourite pastimes! This was 1934, ladies, remember? The fashion was everything. Just the perfect time to immerse myself in the Paris that brought us flapper dresses, silk shawls, and a certain daring edge! Imagine a kaleidoscope of colours, silks, sequins, feathers, and pearls swirling before your very eyes, my lovelies! Oh, the beauty of those Parisian ateliers!

Walking down the Champs-Élysées, I found myself mesmerized by the extravagant millinery. It's safe to say that I bought at least a dozen feather boas and a new feather headpiece that practically screamed 'pink tutu queen'! Who could resist? Not me!

Then came the dance halls! Swinging into a 1930s dance club is pure magic. The beat is intoxicating. It's as if you can actually hear the world changing, a feeling of possibility, liberation, and absolute fun. Imagine swaying under the glittering lights to live jazz music. Now imagine all of this happening in gorgeous Parisian style - a place brimming with colourful people who embraced the rhythm of life. Talk about a blast from the past!

One evening, as I sipped my champagne, I noticed a charming young woman in a vibrant, turquoise gown, with her hair swept up in a chic bun, watching the stage with admiration. She radiated a certain energy - one that could only come from someone passionate about performance and self-expression. I knew immediately that we would hit it off. She told me she had been coming to this cabaret since she was a little girl, and her dream was to one day become a singer and performer on this very stage. I’m sure with her dedication and determination, her dreams will come true.

After a whirlwind tour of 1930s Parisian drag and culture, it was time to journey back to my beloved Derbyshire. While I admit to being a bit sad to leave, I felt a renewed sense of inspiration! I had truly fallen for the allure and magic of Paris. A city that celebrated artistry, and encouraged personal expression, that embraced change with a charmingly nonchalant attitude, it’s easy to see why this city has become the creative hub it is today!

Back home in Derbyshire, I’m busy reminiscing about those decadent Parisian nights! A little bit of magic has always followed me back from my time-traveling adventures. I can’t wait to share more about it with all of you! But remember, my loves, my adventures always start in the perfect pink tutu. You see, it doesn't matter when or where you're travelling in time or across the world, all you need is the courage to wear a little pink and let your true self shine.

That’s my tip for you this month, my dears! Never shy away from rocking the colours and the styles you love most, and most importantly, don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone, because in those little steps of boldness is where we discover a whole world of fun and possibilities.

Until next month, remember, the Pink Tutu time travel blog is always here for you! Keep those feathers fluttering and that makeup sparkling!

With love and glitter,
