Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #191: November 11th, 1935 - A Parisian Promenade in Pink!

Hello darlings! It’s your favourite Derbyshire diva, Emma, back again with another sparkly escapade through time. I’ve had the most delightful time prancing through history, and this time, my pink tutu whisked me away to a bustling Parisian night, back in 1935! I'm living my best life here on www.pink-tutu.com, the only website devoted to drag, tutus and travelling through time!

Oh my goodness, the excitement in the air! My tutu, ever the conductor of the cosmos, led me straight to the heart of Parisian theatre land. It seems the 11th of November in 1935 was a real night for entertainment! Let’s delve into the dazzling details, shall we?

Now, dear readers, the biggest story that caught my attention was at the Folies Bergère - one of the most legendary venues in Paris. It’s still around today, a theatre filled with spectacular and risque shows! Tonight was no different, the iconic Josephine Baker, a dazzling talent and an icon of both jazz and theatre, took to the stage! Imagine the electrifying energy! She was renowned for her fierce femininity and her beautiful movements, and to think, my darling, my time machine led me straight to her glorious performance!

This incredible entertainer and pioneering woman truly inspired me, with her costumes, dancing, and unwavering spirit! She certainly broke barriers and shattered glass ceilings with her talent. There was an infectious excitement in the air that night! I saw whispers of this era in a vintage documentary a few years ago, but to feel it in the moment was just... magic! A touch of pink eyeshadow, the sweet melody of a live orchestra, and that energy of freedom… truly magical.

But, this night of revelry wasn’t limited to Josephine Baker's show! You know me, dear friends, a girl like me couldn't resist an outing to see what else was on in Paris! Let's pop into the Moulin Rouge, another Parisian landmark. Known for its scandalous entertainment and "can-can" dances, this iconic venue was pulsing with the spirit of the Roaring Twenties!

The Moulin Rouge was like a dazzling wonderland! Feathers, glitter, champagne, a cabaret - what more could a girl need? My love of dancing definitely brought out a certain 'Je Ne Sais Quoi' - the spirit of Parisian elegance. It felt like all the best performers were gathering under this glorious red windmill. The performers, adorned in feather-laden headdresses and elaborate costumes, oozed confidence as they performed their stunning routines! It was truly a time capsule, and one I felt deeply connected to - we share that passion for fabulousness, my darlings!

The most iconic scene in Parisian theatre that night was the La Vie Parisienne – a comic opera which showcased some of the most delightful performers of the day. The performance was vibrant, full of satire, and definitely packed with theatrical flair! It was an all-round night of decadence and delight. The Parisian entertainment scene in the 1930s felt a world apart from our own!

After witnessing so many amazing acts, I felt the urge for some retail therapy. After all, I’ve always maintained a good outfit is the cornerstone of every drag queen’s repertoire! I explored the Rue de la Paix, the place to be in 1935 for chic fashion. Oh my goodness, darlings, the shops! There were stores offering everything from glamorous Parisian couture gowns to decadent hats. It was a shopper's paradise!

I managed to snap up some beautiful vintage jewels for a pittance and found myself a delightful feathered hat to match my mood for the evening! My dear, you know how I love vintage glamour, and there was a true elegance and refined charm about the fashion on display - it reminded me that time-honoured beauty truly is timeless.

As the moon shimmered above Paris, I found myself sipping wine on a cobbled Parisian street, reflecting on this truly unforgettable night. My adventures reminded me of the power of a stunning ensemble, and the sheer joy of celebrating individuality, which is at the very heart of drag. These women (and men, some may say!) were blazing a trail with their boldness, their creativity, and their captivating performances.

But there's always a reason to celebrate! I'm already dreaming up the next fabulous chapter in my pink tutu journey. What exciting history awaits me? Stay tuned, darlings! For now, take my advice – be bold, be fabulous, and never shy away from an adventure, especially when a fabulous pink tutu awaits!

Yours eternally in fabulousness,

Emma
