Hello, my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your monthly dose of all things pink, fabulous and utterly drag-tastic!
This month, we're jetting off on a whimsical trip to 10th October 1944 - a truly remarkable date for the history of drag! Don't worry, darlings, this time-travelling tutu isn't going anywhere near any battlefields. It's heading straight to the glamorous heart of Paris, for a spectacular, historical fashion affair!
A Peek at Paris in Pink
1944 was a tumultuous year in the world, with the shadows of war still looming. But in Paris, life was starting to blossom again. Fashion, as it always does, was blooming right alongside it. And as you all know, darlings, drag and fashion are inseparable!
The iconic Christian Dior had only recently unveiled his 'New Look' collection, a game changer for women's wear. Think elegant, flowing skirts, cinched waists, and lots and lots of feminine frills – a recipe for glamorous inspiration, wouldn’t you say? I just imagine all the drag queens in Paris embracing this new silhouette – just picture the perfect 'New Look' silhouette, with a splash of pink, on stage! And just imagine the look on a grumpy Nazi's face if he found himself trapped in the audience of such a glorious, flamboyant, pink spectacle.
But back to our history lesson!
I decided to visit this year to see if my favourite shade – the divine pink – was already starting to take over the Parisian streets. Turns out it was, darlings! Imagine this: It's a glorious day in Paris, the air abuzz with the excitement of a city coming back to life. I’m swirling through the cobbled streets in my pink tulle tutu, taking in all the gorgeous scenery. The shops are displaying the freshest fashion with an air of joyous extravagance, showcasing pink hues with such exquisite panache.
Oh darling, what I wouldn't give to have been able to join those fabulous Parisians! Just picture it: a fabulous showstopper of a cabaret featuring daring, beautiful performers all rocking different shades of pink - coral, flamingo, rose, bubblegum, even the more muted shades, blush and peach! I bet the entire theatre was radiating the divine aura of pink energy!
The Secret Drag History of Paris
Now, of course, my darling, history doesn’t always show us the full picture, and it was even harder to capture it in those days, So, finding actual drag performances from this time is like trying to find a perfect, pink feather amongst a storm of confetti! But, darlings, just because it hasn’t been recorded doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. We know, with unwavering certainty, that drag queens are always, always there, entertaining, expressing, and inspiring. They always have been and they always will be. Just think how they'd be brightening those war-torn times. Even if just in secret, I'm sure there would be those legendary drag queens in 1944 Paris performing in dusty little cellars, in hidden Parisian ballrooms or in private parties, spreading their own little brand of magic and pink joy wherever they could.
And even though, we can't document exactly what drag queens in Paris were wearing in 1944, I've got a little pink history fashion challenge for you darlings! Why not put on your pink tutus, your brightest lipstick, and imagine you’re walking through Paris in 1944. Let your creativity flow, capture it in a selfie and tag me #PinkParisDragQueen! You never know - it just might inspire the next great drag creation.
Pink Fashion Inspiration
Remember, darlings, fashion is a tool of expression. Drag queens, more than anyone else, know how to use this tool to make a statement! Pink, to me, represents optimism, happiness, and just plain FUN. But even if your fashion preference is different – blue, green, purple, black, white, yellow - whatever makes your heart flutter - use fashion to be your best, most fabulous self. The point is to wear it proudly! Wear your personality, wear your passions, and wear that damn pink tutu with fierce confidence!
Catch You Next Month!
Until next time, darling, remember: you're unique, you're fabulous, and most importantly, never underestimate the power of a little pink in your life!
