Pink-Tutu: A Drag Queen's Guide to Time Travel - Episode #331 - July 7th, 1947 💖✨

Darling, are you ready to whisk yourself back to the glamorous era of post-war 1947? It's your fabulous Pink-Tutu blogger, Emma, and this month we're doing a little time warp right back to a day in July when the world was full of bobby socks, jitterbug dancing, and of course, some extraordinary drag moments. Buckle up buttercup, 'cause it's about to get fabulous!

As a fellow Derbyshire lass, you know I always say: 'There's no place like home'. So naturally, I always love getting back to England. The good ol' Blighty was really bouncing back from the war by '47, so if you're in for a historical stroll, why not step out and experience a night in a bustling West End theatre, have a proper "cuppa" at a charming little café, or even do a bit of window shopping in a fabulously chic shop.

Time Travelling with My Pink Tutu

But we’re not here for just any walk in the park, dearies! I popped on my lucky pink tutu and did a little "whirlwind" journey (literally - you should have seen me navigate the temporal flux with my grand jeté! - clap clap). Let's be real, this journey was all about the glamour! What’s that you say, you can’t time travel with a pink tutu? Nonsense, darling. Just trust me - you need a touch of whimsy, a touch of magic, and of course, the power of a pink tutu. It's the secret sauce of my adventures!

So, what happened on this particular day in 1947? Let me spill the tea...

Parisian Drag Glamour: Okay, darling, we're crossing the Channel now - you’re all ears for some truly Parisian drag history. Can you imagine: this was a golden era of cabaret, music halls, and burlesque. Imagine the atmosphere in places like the Moulin Rouge or the Lido, where drag was considered le spectacle - a truly unique performance art.

Imagine the whispers of Parisian sophistication as the drag queens sauntered across the stage in lavish feather headdresses, silk gowns, and their impossibly fabulous make-up! Now, even though my love affair with ballet demands some elegant tutus in my time travelling wardrobe, it’s clear that drag queens always push boundaries. And I am living for these 1940s trends - some of the best makeup artistry in history was happening in this decade!

Finding the Sparkle - Drag in America

Now, let's pop across the Atlantic, dearies. America was a bubbling cauldron of excitement in 1947. They had just won the war and were celebrating their independence - you just knew some drag magic was happening in those big cities like New York and Chicago. And guess what, darling? You were right to think so!

This was a time when a lot of nightclubs and music halls embraced drag performance - we are talking some fabulous entertainment. Drag wasn’t just for a special night out, it was a regular occurrence, something folks loved and got excited about. This is exactly what we need to remember when we see amazing drag acts. Our history is alive, well, and kicking!

Finding the Magic in Drag

I think I must say, darlings, the best thing about this day in history was finding out that no matter where you are, no matter what your era - drag queens are a part of history! Our stories, our voices, our talent, our struggles and triumphs - all woven together in the rich tapestry of drag history. So here’s to the fearless, the flamboyant, the magical - you know, your girl, Emma, will always find a reason to celebrate!
