Post #419: 1954, November 11th - A Pink Tutu In Time, Darling!

Oh, my darlings, can you believe it’s the 11th of November already? Time just flies, doesn’t it? As does my fabulous pink tutu, quite literally when I’m whisking myself off on a time travel escapade. It’s all rather dizzying, really, and I do tend to get lost in time… I think I once ended up in Ancient Egypt, completely out of place, covered in glitter and clutching my tulle in a confused, but thoroughly delightful, state.

But anyway, today is all about this date, 1954, the 11th of November! Imagine the world back then, all that glamorous pre-Beatles energy – let's dive right into it, shall we?

My, my, I have to tell you - 1954 in the world of drag was a-buzzin' like a hive of fabulous bees. Back in the days when everyone wore pastel colours and big hats, there was something going on everywhere in the underground world of fabulousness! This wasn't about social media fame or drag race queens, this was about the true pioneers - the hidden talents in dimly lit nightclubs and community halls, where hearts and minds were opened to a new, beautiful way of life.

America, oh America!

The fabulous Miss Fanny Brice was bringing her big heart and bigger voice to the New York stage, charming everyone with her classic stand-up act and, rumour has it, the most fantastic gowns! In San Francisco, one of the original "drag bars", the "Red Lantern" was bustling with all the excitement of this exciting new generation. My goodness, can you imagine – being part of something like that? It all sounds incredibly fabulous!

But Don’t Forget The UK, Darlings!

Over here in England, London’s "Gay's The Word" bookshop, founded by Frederick ( Freddie) Ross was doing amazing things! I'm talking books, magazines, pamphlets and all kinds of publications promoting queer culture and liberation. I popped by and even found a rather delicious book called, "How To Become a Drag Queen: The Definitive Guide for Transvestites". You can only imagine the pearls of wisdom contained within those pages, darlings! Oh! Freddie also organised underground parties with a great blend of theatricality and music! It’s these people that give me inspiration for my performances back home in Derbyshire.

You know, back in those days, the world felt a bit less fast-paced. Drag wasn't the huge sensation it is today - but it felt powerful, special. The joy, the courage, and the sheer love of art it poured into those smoky back-rooms and hidden bars… that’s the true magic of drag, isn’t it? And the best part? All that amazing energy, the dedication to pushing boundaries, it just fuelled this wonderful, wonderful community!

But Let’s Not Forget: Pink Tutus Everywhere!

Speaking of communities, darlings, let's spread some of that love today. Remember our mission? Everyone wearing a pink tutu, oh yes! I’ve had such fun on my travels – last week I popped in to say hello to Audrey Hepburn in the 1960s! You won't believe what I was wearing – a sparkling pink tulle confection, topped with a vintage pink hat, of course. She seemed quite smitten, too, with the whole ensemble, if you can believe it!

Maybe it’s my influence, maybe it’s the power of pink! Let's show the world the joy of tulle, of twirling and expressing ourselves! I believe every day can be a celebration of fabulousness. After all, who needs a special date when you have a magnificent, pink tutu ready to time travel?! Don't be shy, darlings, spread the pink! Tell me all about your fabulous, pink tutu experiences, share your pictures! After all, the more, the merrier.

Until next time, lovelies. Remember, it's never too late to add a little pink and a whole lot of fun to your day!

Catch you later, my dear darlings!

XOXO, Emma. www.pink-tutu.com
