Pink Tutu Time Travel: November 11th 1958 - Post 467

Hello darling dears,

Emma here, your fabulous fuchsia friend from Derbyshire, ready to take you on another glorious journey through the shimmering history of drag. This month, we’re whipping out the time-travelling tutu and jetting back to a vibrant November 11th, 1958, a date filled with fascinating stories and dazzling displays of dragulence!

This time around, darling, I'm taking my trusty pink tutu on a world tour. We’re about to discover a thrilling global scene of drag divas and drag-tastic events, all on the eve of the fabulous 60s.

Buckle up your sequined seats, darlings, and get ready for a delightful journey!

The Fabulous Sixties Are A-Comin'!

Now, let’s be perfectly frank - 1958, that's practically whispering “fabulous sixties” on the horizon! The air was fizzing with a playful rebellion, a change in the wind, ready to sweep in the era of bold colour and sassy confidence. This time, the “good old days” are all about glamour and change! It’s no wonder drag exploded into a glorious new age, brimming with creativity and dazzling delights.

NYC - Drag Becomes The Main Attraction

Let’s land in New York City first. Imagine this – New York’s Coliseum is humming with excitement, all for an event called “The First Annual World Series of Drag,” an absolutely fabulous show for our era, isn’t it?! This incredible event features three-day nights of Drag Spectaculars - can you imagine, three days of drag?! You could have practically died from the amount of camp, glamour and, oh, so much glitz. Imagine all those feather boas, glittering gowns, and wigs bigger than your life. Honestly darling, the world's most fabulous women in fabulous shows for an incredible weekend!

What a glorious tribute to our magnificent history, darling. Even with our tutu magic, I wish we could step back in time and get lost in that magnificent drag scene for those glorious three days. Now wouldn’t that be iconic?!

London's Hottest Tickets!

Now darling, time for a little trip across the pond! We’re heading to the West End, where excitement and fabulousness are the norm! I can just imagine the thrill of stepping out of the tutu portal right into a fabulous London night, London, known for being one of the greatest centers of entertainment in the world.

Imagine the lights, darling, shining off the rhinestones and sequins of every drag star on stage, dazzling the crowd with show-stopping moves and sassy repartee. There were at least 25 amazing and spectacularly fun clubs in London offering everything you could desire, and if it was on the West End, well you simply had to go. Even I couldn't help but join in. I got swept up in the energy, snapping a quick selfie with the biggest feather boa I had ever seen! Now that's a souvenir I treasure from 1958.

Berlin - Where Drag Stars are Born!

Across the Channel we are flying, alighting in Berlin! Oh, this era is brimming with amazing, dramatic performers! Imagine stepping out of the time-travel tutu portal in Berlin – a city pulsating with new and innovative arts, and brimming with nightlife. It's a city that practically encourages an all-encompassing atmosphere of creativity and passion for expression - how I adore a fabulous Berlin night! The city’s heart beats to the rhythms of glamour and boldness – simply dazzling.

As for the scene darling? Berlin’s nightclubs and theatre stages are full of a spectacular array of diverse and daring performances, pushing boundaries and pushing the world to embrace change - fabulousness! And we’re right here with our fabulous pink tutu in the midst of it all, celebrating drag’s journey in this extraordinary time.

Drag Becomes an Art!

You see darlings, there’s an unmissable spark of change around the globe! It's almost as though we’re at the starting line of something momentous - the beginnings of something groundbreaking and revolutionary.

Here in 1958, the scene is buzzing with fabulous performances. But even more so, drag is embracing an even wider stage and acceptance beyond just clubs. It's becoming recognized, more and more, as an artform. This is what excites me!

Drag performers in these exciting days are showing off their incredible artistry, showcasing a wider range of talents. They're singing, dancing, and taking their talents to stages outside traditional nightclubs.

As the sixties swing into action, a wave of exciting drag stories will be made! The very thought of it, my dears, is utterly, ridiculously glorious! It’s the dawn of an amazing new age for our magnificent drag universe! And my, oh my, it's making my fabulous fuchsia heart happy.

A Quick Stop At Our Time-Traveling Boutique!

We just couldn't resist popping back to our Pink-Tutu Boutique for a little sartorial interlude, darlings!

Think a dash of 1958 glamour for a pink tutu ensemble? Perhaps a dash of Hollywood inspiration with a dash of a “Rock’n Roll” attitude? Imagine: a hot pink tutu overflowing with layers of chiffon, ruffles, sequined patterns, and some dramatic feather accents – it would look divine against the glittering backdrop of a New York or Berlin night, wouldn’t it? Now, we simply must try a headpiece – maybe a rhinestone crown for that bit of regality, darling? We’ll add a fabulously large fluffy pink wig, with a touch of cherry blossom for a fabulous floral touch, perfect for channeling that New York glamour. And of course, we wouldn't forget a set of white satin gloves, and for those finishing touches, maybe a touch of pink sparkle here and there? A true show-stopping outfit for our era.

I must remember to do a shopping haul in 1958, I must see those feather boas in all their magnificence. I simply must buy one!

Drag: A World Wide Event!

But here is the best part - as I say, all the global cities are now brimming with exciting new drag scenes! As for what’s hot, darling, the fabulous trend this season is a complete embrace of flamboyant drag, pushing those artistic boundaries further than ever! We are at a place in history, that is an incredibly empowering era for drag!

I can almost imagine that iconic feather boa fluttering in the night, its beauty reflecting the era’s wild energy. There's no other way to express it, darling - the world is ready for the wild glamour that drag queens bring.

My Favorite Look

Darling, a good, simple, show-stopping ensemble for 1958? You can’t go wrong with a shimmering silver gown, with an incredibly large (but glamorous) pink tutu – and those glittery white go-go boots! So fabulous, you know. Now don’t we all just love that signature feather boa – for that iconic vintage touch of elegance, of course. Then there’s that crown! You can't ever go wrong, darling! You'll need something to pull it all together, and of course, you’ll be absolutely stunning!

Now you’re simply the epitome of drag elegance! You'll absolutely melt every heart with that look! Just remember to flash a smile – and maybe throw a few glittery kisses from our fabulous pink tutu time portal!
