Hello darlings! π π Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where time is but a fleeting fancy and a pink tutu is the only true wardrobe staple. This is your girl Emma, and I'm back from another fabulous time-traveling escapade! This month, my magic pink tutu has taken me all the way back to September 1961 - a period brimming with glitter, glamour, and the stirrings of a drag revolution! π
As always, I've brought back a heaping dose of drag history, served up with a dollop of glamour and a dash of cheeky gossip. And you can bet your bottom dollar, it all revolves around my dearest pink tutu! π
A Stroll Down 1961: Fashion & FabulositySeptember 1961, honey, was a time of pure fashion inspiration. The swinging 60s were just beginning to bloom, and the air was thick with a vibrant energy that translated directly into the clothing. Think bold colours, geometric shapes, and playful, carefree silhouettes. Even though the world of drag wasn't widely celebrated back then, the creativity and individuality that defines drag blossomed underground. π€«
The gals of that era were working their magic in clubs, back rooms, and even the streets, embracing the freedom to express themselves in bold and beautiful ways. I could picture myself in the heart of London's Soho, sipping champagne in a hidden bar, surrounded by a gaggle of queens looking fabulous in vintage dresses and daring eye makeup. Oh darling, can you imagine the drama? π
Where The Drag Was In September 1961Now, September 1961 might not have been plastered with posters of the latest Drag Race winner (although, wasn't RuPaul a darling even back then? Just imagine a younger Ru strutting her stuff in 1961! π), but the world of drag was absolutely buzzing. In New York City, the "Cockettes," a drag performance troupe known for their whimsical, satirical shows, were gaining momentum, challenging societal norms with their unique blend of camp and cabaret. Meanwhile, over in San Francisco, the "Drag Ball" was a highlight of the scene, celebrating LGBTQ+ community with elaborate balls and dance nights. Imagine those fabulous drag mothers dancing the night away, celebrating each other with all the grace and elegance that they possessed! π€©
Back home in Derbyshire, although the scene might not have been as vibrant as the bustling metropolises, I can bet my tutu that the local drag performances were as fabulous as ever. Just imagine the cosy pubs, the twinkling lights, and the drag queens holding the stage with their wit and charisma! Maybe one day, my magic tutu will whisk me back to those forgotten corners of our fabulous history! π
A Pink Tutu In Time: How To Bring The 60s To LifeDarling, it's time for a touch of magic. Are you ready to step back into those fabulous 60s and let your inner diva shine? Don your finest pink tutu (pink tutus are timeless, you know!) and grab a vintage scarf or headpiece. Channel the vibrant spirit of the era with bold lipstick and eye makeup, adding a dash of shimmer for extra sparkle. Let the bold geometric lines of the time inspire your wardrobe choices! π
Remember, even though we live in a world with drag races and televised talent shows, the history of drag is a journey, and we're just starting to truly understand its impact. And my darling, itβs that very impact that shines so bright with a magical pink tutu on every soul.
Until next month, stay glamorous, and donβt forget: life is a stage, so step up, find your inner diva, and embrace your beautiful self. π
Lots of love,
Emma π
