Pink-Tutu.com Post #570: A Time Travelling Tutu Takes a Trip to '67!

Hello darlings! It’s your girl Emma here, back from another fabulous adventure in the time travelling pink tutu, and this month, I’m dipping into June 1967! Now, you may think 1967? Oh darling, the Summer of Love! That’s exactly what I was thinking too!

But before we get lost in groovy vibes and peace signs, let’s be honest, what’s more iconic than a pink tutu? I’m all about pushing boundaries, darlings! Imagine a world where everyone wears a pink tutu. It would be so fantastic! It’s all about embracing the magic and beauty, both inside and out!

Now, let’s talk time travel! So, last night, I donned my magic pink tutu, said my goodbyes to my beloved kitties, Priscilla and Bubbles (who’ve been suspiciously well-behaved this week… must be up to something!), and WHAP! I’m whisked away to 1967! I love how everything looks so vintage; it’s divine!

But where to begin? Where else but a drag show? Of course! And as any proper drag queen knows, finding out about the history of drag, well, darling, it’s as essential as mascara!

The Drag Scene in '67:

The drag scene in June 1967 was truly blooming! Think iconic figures like Divine and Jackie Beat, and let’s not forget the legend herself, Holly Woodlawn, whose influence continues to be oh so glamorous! The bars in New York City, like The Stonewall Inn, were places where the community could truly be themselves, where they felt a sense of belonging! They danced, they laughed, they loved - it was truly the place to be, darling!

However, June 1967 wasn’t all about glitz and glamour; it was a year where the drag scene had to fight for recognition, especially with the rise of conservatism. There was, sadly, some animosity toward the drag community, with even certain aspects of the media playing up the fear of "nonconformity". Quelle horreur! It felt so very un-inclusive and unkind to me, even in my pink tutu, but, of course, the drag community stayed true to themselves and fought back.

But oh my! I learned the importance of a good dose of rebellious sass and a sprinkle of unadulterated sparkle! I saw firsthand how the drag community became a bastion of defiance, a space of acceptance, a force of inspiration for everyone seeking to be their authentic selves.

And me? What’s a drag queen time traveller gotta do?

As you know, dear readers, my pink tutu can do anything! It's not just about the fashion (although, the fabulousness factor of a pink tutu is undeniable!). My pink tutu, well, it carries a message. It says “I'm here. I'm proud. And I'm celebrating what makes me unique.”

So, this month, my dearest readers, I'm leaving you with a challenge, a pink-tutu challenge, if you will: wear a pink tutu! Even if it’s just around the house, or while doing your groceries! Who knows? It might inspire someone else to embrace their inner fabulousness, to spread love, acceptance, and most importantly, a bit of that Pink-Tutu magic!

And Now for Some Fashion Talk...

Speaking of iconic fashion, 1967 saw some killer styles! I'm talking mod miniskirts, A-line dresses, and psychedelic patterns - simply divine! I picked up some gorgeous pieces for my personal collection. Trust me, darling, you wouldn't believe the bargains you can find if you're willing to time travel. Plus, it's all sustainable, right? What's more eco-friendly than vintage?

One of the most memorable outfits from my journey through '67 had to be the groovy fashion at a local drag show I attended. The vibrant colours, bold patterns, and all the sparkly bits? Just divine! They used a kaleidoscope of colours, which perfectly reflected the times!

And let's talk about shoes! I'm obsessed with platform boots and stiletto heels, and trust me, '67 did not disappoint! There were so many options, darling, and with a hint of sass. The fashion icons in '67 loved pairing boots with dresses, creating a mix of street style with femininity that is still so fashionable! The more I travel in my tutu, the more I realize that what’s old is definitely new again!

And finally, a quick tip for all you lovely, aspiring time travelling drag queens out there: the world in 1967 is full of fun! From psychedelic concerts to avant-garde art shows, I’ve truly found a wealth of inspiring experiences. But remember, darling, even with all this fun, remember to stay safe and smart. You wouldn’t believe the places a pink tutu can take you, but make sure you always use your wits!

Until next month, stay fabulous and keep the Pink Tutu spirit alive!

Lots of Love,

Emma * www.pink-tutu.com*
