Pink Tutu Travels: February 2nd, 1968 - The Power of a Tutu! 💅✨

Hiya darlings! It’s Emma, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, back with another thrilling post for your beloved Pink-Tutu.com! I'm just getting over the excitement of a trip back to February 2nd, 1968 – oh, the stories I could tell! This trip really solidified my belief in the power of a tutu. It's not just about looking fabulous; it’s about embracing your inner queen, no matter where or when you are!

Post number 578. And this month's adventure... well, you’re going to want to put the kettle on for this one!

Let me paint you a picture. Imagine bustling London, the energy electric, everyone a little bit edgy. You can practically smell the thrill of revolution in the air, alongside a delightful aroma of lavender and lilies from the flowers being sold on every corner. I stepped out of my trusty pink tutu time machine in the heart of this fabulous city, feeling like I could take on the world – well, until the bus fumes got to me. Oh, darling, the pollution was something else!

My first port of call was the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Now, for all you theatre kittens, this is a legend, a piece of London history. In the middle of this, the very same night that my tutu and I made our entrance, was a revival of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ starring Topol. This incredible actor brought Tevye to life in a truly remarkable performance. Honestly, the audience was buzzing, all thanks to a blend of laughter and tears that only a great musical can deliver. I even managed to squeeze in a peek backstage, where I witnessed firsthand the power of collaboration and the true artistry that goes into putting on such a masterpiece.

You see, darling, even back in 1968, a touch of theatricality could electrify the stage and melt even the most hardened hearts! I spotted a few fellas dressed to the nines, sporting hats and sharp tailoring, but a full-blown drag show was nowhere to be seen. And yet, a whisper on the wind hinted at the rise of what we now know as “the New York scene”. This burgeoning underground movement was embracing self-expression like never before. Now, we all know a pink tutu would have fit in perfectly!

And you know what? I decided to embrace the "power of the tutu" in my own way. I went for a wander through Piccadilly, and lemme tell ya, the sights and sounds were incredible. In those days, they had all these department stores, packed to the rafters with everything you could ever wish for. I mean, darling, we’re talking about Liberty, a genuine haven of chicness, even for my modern sensibilities. A tutu in this vintage world would have caused quite the stir. But, no worries, dear, I channeled my inner-chic while soaking up the fashions of the era. I was mesmerized by the bouffants, the bold colours, and those gloriously extravagant hats!

After a fabulously fun afternoon of window shopping and admiring all the retro fashion, my stomach started rumbling – even a time traveller needs to eat! I ended up enjoying a scrumptious bite in one of London's renowned tea rooms. The sandwiches were divine, the cakes, well, simply dreamy. But as I sipped my tea and imagined all those fashionistas of the day twirling about in their grand attire, I couldn't shake the thought of a perfectly pink tutu taking centre stage. Can you imagine the delicious contrast against those pastel pink floral patterns that were all the rage?

Now, dear, I can’t reveal all the details about my pink-tutu time travels! It's a secret society, you know. But I can say that my trip to 1968 taught me so much about the enduring power of drag. You see, we can take on any era, we can express ourselves however we please. Our energy, our flamboyance, is unstoppable!

But enough about my adventure. What are YOU doing to celebrate the world of drag today? Maybe you're watching a fabulous show, designing your own sparkly outfit, or simply rocking your own individual style. And if you're brave enough to go all out and embrace the pink tutu, well, I say "Go for it!" There's a whole world of magic out there waiting for you, just like it was for me in that colourful, vibrant year of 1968.

Stay sparkly and stay curious, darling! And remember, "The show must go on", whether you're in London or out on the interwebs, or even time-travelling through a magical pink tutu. 😉

XOXO, Emma 💖
