Post #752: 8th August 1982 โ€“ From Derbyshire to...Well, Who Knows? ๐Ÿ’…โœจ๐Ÿ’–

Hello darlings! Emma here, back with another time-travel adventure, fresh from a weekend of sequins and shimmying. This month's voyage took me right back to the fabulous 80s, specifically August the 8th, 1982. Buckle up, pet, 'cause we're about to dive into a real whirlwind of a time!

First things first, lemme tell you, I was serving full-blown pink power in a tutu that even Barbie would have been jealous of. Imagine a confection of bubblegum pink tulle with a shimmering silver bodice - talk about the perfect combo for time travelling through history! It's my own little secret weapon, this tutu.

Now, about this specific date, 8th August 1982...it just so happens to be the birthday of a legendary drag queen, Divine. Now, you might know her from her work with John Waters in films like "Pink Flamingos" and "Hairspray" โ€“ quite a few of us drag queens are obsessed with that era of drag! This Queen truly pushed the boundaries with her outrageous persona and unapologetic glamour.

Speaking of glamour, what was going on in the drag scene back in 1982? Well, New York City was absolutely the epicentre of it all. The legendary Pyramid Club was thriving, known for its groundbreaking performances by drag icons like Lady Bunny, and a young drag performer named RuPaul was already making a splash in the New York scene, too. This was a period of raw, unrestrained drag performance that broke free from traditional expectations.

My first stop, as usual, was New York City! The streets were abuzz with energy. The air crackled with the sound of the latest disco tunes blasting from shops and apartments. I took a spin on a rooftop overlooking Times Square โ€“ just imagine it: sparkling lights, the thrill of the city, and a gorgeous pink tutu, all in one glamorous frame!

But you know me, darling โ€“ I don't just stick to one spot. I had to make my way to San Francisco next. Now, San Francisco was the hub of a whole different scene. Think vibrant, outspoken drag queens at places like The Cockettes โ€“ pioneers of the โ€œperformance artโ€ and drag scene, pushing boundaries and using drag as a powerful statement. It was like being plunged headfirst into a swirling cauldron of creative energy!

Then it was off to Europe! Paris, the city of lights, was already showcasing drag with a particular Parisian flair. From legendary cabaret shows to underground performances in tucked-away corners of the city, drag was in full force. Imagine: the elegant backdrop of the Champs-ร‰lysรฉes, a drag queen sashaying by in a stunning feathered headdress โ€“ what a scene!

This time-traveling trip truly made me realize something โ€“ drag, no matter where you are, is about self-expression, about celebrating yourself, your unique individuality. Itโ€™s about stepping out of your comfort zone, wearing a bright pink tutu, and daring to be whoever you want to be, whoever you truly feel in your heart.

Back in my little Derbyshire village, the reality of 2023 starts to creep in โ€“ But then I take a peek at my calendar, and it's time for another monthly show! I get my glitter back on, shimmy my way into a brand new, pink (of course) sparkly tutu, and remember all the lessons my time travels have taught me. Lifeโ€™s a stage, darling, and we're all born to be drag queens!

Remember, you can check out more of my amazing adventures in pink tutu glory on my website, www.pink-tutu.com. And remember, always wear a pink tutu. Because, darling, the world needs more pink. ๐Ÿ’–โœจ๐Ÿ’…
