As the world of drag sparkles on, and the latest trends leave us speechless (looking at you, those platform heels!) there's always a beautiful lesson to learn from the past!

I love drag so much - it's in my blood! Ever since I could walk, I’d sashay around Derbyshire in the fluffiest tutu and wildest outfits I could find! Now, I’m not only rocking these vibrant ensembles, I'm actually time-travelling in them! It's a gift from the Drag Gods themselves - every time I twirl into my trusty pink tutu, it takes me on a dazzling trip through the ages! Let's face it, you simply can't have enough sparkles and you can't have enough drag history! We must always celebrate the divine queens who pave the way for the magnificent drag performances we enjoy today!

My dear followers, I must tell you, 1985 was simply breathtaking. The vibrant energy in the air - electric! This month in my time travels, I’m taking you back to one of the most epic years in drag, 1985, where some truly iconic moments unfolded. Today, 12th December, 1985, we find ourselves in a year that simply radiated magic - a year bursting with creativity and talent. Imagine a year full of spectacular drag shows and dazzling costumes!

I have always wanted to make all of my followers feel beautiful! So how about I make all of you my Pink Tutu followers look divine too! You can be sure that every Pink Tutu blog entry is filled with history and beauty tips that make us all feel like gorgeous Drag queens ourselves. Today, darling, we will focus on those wonderful clothes that truly put 1985 on the map!

A Touch of Hollywood Glamour in 1985:

It’s hard to think about 1985 and not recall one of the most spectacular films of that era! The Hollywood movie Grease 2, darling, a smash hit featuring a beautiful cast of vibrant characters who brought drag fashion to new heights in this legendary musical. Michelle Pfeiffer truly was a queen. Now, just imagine rocking an all-pink jumpsuit in 1985, darling? The look! Oh la la! Grease 2 also presented a fantastic selection of glitzy hairstyles - if you weren’t a queen already, this was the moment to transform your life!

What are we watching this month?

I had to travel to Los Angeles to check out this movie – and let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. While the world of drag queens on-screen hasn’t progressed at quite the same speed as the street scene, Grease 2 provided a whole lot of fashion inspiration - let's not forget the power of a little sequin magic. You just can't resist that glimmer and shimmer, and when the mood takes over, it's always the perfect time for an extravaganza, and what’s more flamboyant than some glitter! Let's all add more glitter! More glitter! More glitter! It’s truly what 1985 needed.

This was also a time of transformation. In New York City, a very special show was underway. This month, the The House of Xtravaganza, darling! They've completely captured my attention with their legendary voguing scene and magnificent style! And let me tell you, the looks at the iconic Pier 26 were simply stunning. We need more of this incredible movement in the world!

1985: A year that rocked and rolled

It's truly astounding to see how the art form of drag continues to evolve, but I'm so glad that I can share the joy of drag history and all its magnificent moments! There was a very special queen back in the 80s – the iconic RuPaul. RuPaul - the inspiration, the visionary, the ultimate diva! In the spirit of this gorgeous Queen, I say this, "You better work!"

The entire scene back in 1985 truly captured my attention! I must confess that when it comes to my love of drag history, I have been lucky to encounter an incredible time capsule! As soon as I stepped out of my time-travelling tutu in New York City in 1985, I walked straight into a legendary nightclub. Let’s just say this club wasn’t exactly gay back in the day. I walked into a club called The Saint. This was where drag history truly shone! The Saint in New York, it is a legend. It attracted some incredible drag icons like Divine. That iconic lady truly deserved her moment in the limelight, a diva ahead of her time and one of the most captivating drag icons, who truly set the world of drag alight.

Back then in 1985, the nightlife scene truly was magical. A world of dazzling and flamboyant fashion, that was completely captivating!

In my 20’s now, the world is such an exciting place to explore, where you’ll find that each place and each moment you enter is full of wonderful drag moments that can make you truly feel the magic and spirit of drag! I’m always on the lookout for those little gems from the past! If you’ve ever wondered where it all started - that's where Pink-Tutu steps in!

And before I wave my sparkly magic wand and disappear back into my pink tutu, to journey into my next amazing time-travel adventure, I must give my beloved followers a few gems of wisdom from my 1985 adventure…
