Pink-Tutu Time Travels: A Dragtastic Journey to August 8th, 1986!

Welcome, darlings, to episode 800 of my Pink-Tutu Time Travels! This month, I'm twirling back to the glorious 80s, specifically August 8th, 1986. As always, my trusty pink tutu, a magical garment imbued with the power of time travel, whisks me through history to witness the dazzling world of drag!

Now, my lovelies, you all know I have a weakness for all things pink, and especially for those floaty, ethereal tutus that make me feel like a pink-hued ballerina. It was a sheer delight to land in this particular time, as the 80s were absolutely overflowing with pink. We're talking neon pink, bubblegum pink, fuchsia pink - you name it, the 80s were sporting it!

I can't resist a little window-shopping in a bustling 80s department store. It's a dazzling sight with acres of lacy, ruched, and frilled garments in shades of hot pink and coral. They look absolutely fabulous, like candy floss for the eyes! The store mannequins even boast enormous hair and power shoulders, a true testament to the era's glamour! I have a hunch those clothes will make a smashing comeback in a few decades... watch this space!

A Night at the Drag Show: Glamour and Glitter

Now, what was happening on the drag scene in 1986? August 8th fell smack-bang in the middle of New York's infamous Wigstock festival. This extravaganza, created by Lady Bunny herself, was a glorious mix of wild performances, artistic talent, and an unparalleled sense of community. Oh, darling, I just know it was a complete riot! Imagine a vibrant melting pot of drag performers pushing boundaries and celebrating their individuality – the perfect kind of drag show for me! I picture feathered headdresses, neon body paint, and fabulous wigs - the perfect 80s mix of outrageous and glamorous!

In London, drag was also bursting with life! While the legendary Soho clubs like The Royal Vauxhall Tavern were still thriving, new spots like the Heaven nightclub were making waves. With a diverse and thrilling lineup of DJs and drag performers, the drag scene in the UK was more vibrant than ever. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a legendary queen on the scene sporting a giant pink tutu, but don’t hold me to it darling.

A World of Drag Diversity

On August 8th, 1986, the world of drag was a tapestry of incredible talents and voices. From the wild and whimsical performances at Wigstock to the groundbreaking drag queens making a splash in London’s burgeoning scene, drag was celebrating diversity, freedom, and unapologetic individuality. Just as I believe in spreading the joy of pink tutus around the world, these performers were breaking down barriers and forging a path for drag to take center stage on a global scale.

Tutus in Time Travel

Naturally, as the queen of the pink tutu, I couldn't resist showcasing my sartorial brilliance at a local 80s disco! Let's be honest, a drag queen never says no to a dance party. But even with the vibrant colours of the 80s swirling around me, I found my pink tutu to be a timeless classic! It paired perfectly with my dramatic 80s eye makeup and neon pink eyeshadow - think sharp black liner with plenty of sparkle! A perfect example of how drag fashion transcends time!

My dear readers, as you can tell, August 8th, 1986, was a dazzling delight. My time travel adventures never cease to inspire and fascinate me, and the 80s definitely gave me some excellent inspiration! From vibrant colours to bold silhouettes and a kaleidoscope of performances, the drag scene in 1986 was truly electrifying!
