Post 802! Darling! This pink tutu has seen some things, let me tell you. It’s flown me to 1986 and it was like stepping into a disco dream! 💖✨
Hello lovelies, Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing drag time traveller. And my oh my, have I got a story to tell! Last month, my dazzling pink tutu and I hopped in our trusty time machine, swirled a little, and landed ourselves right smack dab in the midst of 1986! Can you imagine?!
Oh honey, it was all just pure camp! I’m talking shimmering sequined bodices, big hair that dared to defy gravity, and of course, all the fierce fabulousness only drag can deliver!
The magic of the moment:
Landing in October 1986 felt like walking into a time capsule. It was electric. I felt this buzzing energy all around me, you could really sense the history being made, the seeds of drag’s incredible future being planted. You just knew you were part of something massive, something truly special.
The vibrant street performers were all out in full force! You’d be strolling down the street, all dolled up in your 80s glam and WHAM! Bam! There’d be these iconic, flamboyant drag queens. Their makeup was perfection, like they’d painted themselves with the sunrise, and the music, oh the music was just everything!
My Adventures in Drag Street Performance
I went to watch this fabulous queen, just a real gem named “Scarlet.” Now, I’m not one for secrets, darlings. I had to catch Scarlet at The Continental, a fantastic drag bar. It felt like you walked into a world of glitz and glamour. You could hear music pounding and just knew that the drag was going to be pure perfection. Oh honey, she strutted her stuff in the most fabulous ensemble – shimmering feathers, high heels that could walk themselves, and let’s not forget the signature sequined headpiece! She really owned that stage and worked it to the maximum!
Scarlet really put on a show – comedy, songs, all of it – she had us gasping and guffawing in equal measure. I felt so inspired. It really made me realize that even in the midst of what might have been challenging times for queer folks, drag continued to blossom. These queens were real trailblazers, breaking barriers, owning their truths, and giving the world a magnificent spectacle that nobody could deny!
Back in my time:
Now, back to my own humble world – Derbyshire, you know, rolling hills and charming countryside. You’d never think, could you, that this little corner of England could be such a haven for drag. But it is! This little town is bursting with its own drag magic. Every weekend there’s a drag show, whether it’s at a local bar, the community center, or even just a pop-up performance in the park. We are a vibrant community of people who embrace their fabulous selves and who support each other with unwavering love.
The Legacy of Pink Tutu:
I’ve been on my time-traveling adventures in my pink tutu now for some time, and the one thing I have realized is this – the spirit of drag, that love, acceptance, and empowerment, has always been there, waiting for us to embrace it. Drag has existed, in one form or another, throughout the course of history, and it’s our duty to keep its flame burning bright, for all those queens, all those stories, that got us here!
So here’s my little message to all of you darlings, right now:
Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re not fabulous enough, that your pink tutu doesn’t deserve its spotlight, that you can’t be your truest, most glorious self. We all deserve a touch of drag magic in our lives, whether that’s twirling in a dazzling pink tutu, painting a rainbow on our faces, or just strutting through the world with our heads held high. Because, darling, that is what drag is all about - expressing yourself and celebrating your authentic self in a way that fills your heart with joy.
Remember my loves, find the drag show near you! We’re out there! Spread the magic. Find your sparkle, find your own time machine, and join us for a whirl through history in a dazzling pink tutu!
Lots of love,
Emma
