Pink Tutu Travels: January 2001 - A Blast From the Past (And a Pink Tutu, Naturally!)

Welcome back, darlings! It's your girl, Emma, and it's time for another edition of Pink Tutu Travels! This month, I've journeyed back to the early days of the new millennium, to January 2001! I can practically hear the *NSYNC blaring from a nearby cassette player!

Post #973 - If you've been following me on this pink-hued journey through time, you know my motto is: "Every day is an opportunity to wear a pink tutu!" It's an important mantra for any queen worth her salt, and today's no different. Now, this time, it seems I've left my current favourite tutu back in the 21st Century, so I found a lovely hot pink one adorned with fluffy feathers. (Let's face it, finding the perfect tutu is always a bit of a struggle, you can't just dash down to Tesco and grab one, darling.)

The Drag Scene: Let's dive right into the action! I always get a kick out of seeing how drag has evolved over time, and January 2001 provided a delicious insight! In New York City, the iconic drag institution, The Stonewall Inn, was going strong! If I could go back and grab a cocktail and chat up a storm, oh, what a fabulous night that would be! In London, the iconic Madame JoJo's club was still buzzing, a place for legendary queens to grace the stage and strut their stuff! It's no wonder it's one of the most influential drag venues in all of Europe!

In Derby, my hometown, we had a drag show going down at the Assembly Rooms in the centre of town! Talk about some real local drag excellence! If only I could have taken a peek at what was on! Oh darling, it makes me wish I'd invented the time machine sooner! I can only imagine the outrageous outfits and sparkling talent!

Beyond the Stage: Now, even a drag queen needs a little retail therapy! While in New York, I dashed into Barney's New York, to check out their fabulous offerings - although, I must confess, their tutus weren't quite my cup of tea. Not quite the fluffy feather explosion my pink tutu-loving heart desires, you know? Back in London, I swung by the legendary department store Liberty, and let me tell you, I found myself admiring their glorious array of fabric and fashion โ€“ they've certainly had a penchant for bold, flamboyant colour and statement pieces through the decades.

Looking Back, Looking Ahead: As always, my darling friends, seeing drag from different decades serves as a lovely reminder that our history is a beautiful and inspiring one! Every time I time travel, I get more excited for the future of drag, the amazing performances, the fashion evolution and the fabulous people! You know what? If I could convince all of you to wear a pink tutu at least once in your life, I'd be the happiest drag queen on the planet!

Stay fabulous and keep that sparkle going, darlings! And remember, there's always time to wear a pink tutu.

Xoxo, Emma.
