Pink Tutu Travels: A Blast From The Past (Blog Post #977)

Hello, darlings! It's your girl, Emma, and I'm back with another fabulous journey through time!

This month, we're twirling back to the 5th of May, 2001 - a time when Britney was still a princess of pop, Friends was a mainstay of television and the world was about to be rocked by the release of a little album called Laundry Service.

Time Traveling Tutu - Take Me Back!

Now, I know what you're thinking - 2001! Doesn't that sound like an absolute riot?! It's almost a decade before I was even born, so naturally, it took a whole lotta sequins and some serious glitter glue for my magical pink tutu to whisk me back to this decade!

Once I landed in this fabulously fluorescent 21st Century moment, I found myself amidst a flurry of excitement in the world of drag. It seemed like everyone was embracing the new millennium with a whirlwind of bold looks, outrageous costumes, and mind-blowing performances.

Oh, the places I've seen!

Being in 2001 was a treat for my fashion-obsessed eyes! There was this fascinating collision of 90s-inspired glamour, with its baggy pants and chokers, blended with a fierce, new millennium vibe. This wasn't just drag, this was drag reimagined, it was bold and unapologetic, a true celebration of the artform.

Imagine this, darlings: a rainbow of colours exploded before my very eyes, a mix of neon green, sky blue and a whole lot of metallics - it was drag at its most dazzling. On stage, these phenomenal queens were unleashing everything they had, lip syncing, voguing, and even death dropping - the theatricality of it all left me gasping for air and demanding more!

On that day, in particular, the drag world was bursting with exciting events.

My time travel research revealed some absolute gems, darling:

  • Divine Miss M - "The New Millennium Tour" - In San Francisco, Miss M was pulling no punches with her fierce and fabulous drag spectacular, sending ripples of excitement through the whole community.

  • *New York City's Drag Race" - *In NYC, a fierce competition was kicking off, called "The Drag Race." A bold title, yes, but what made it really special was that this wasn't just a drag show; it was a full-on drag queen competition. Could it be a sign of what was to come? I bet I know what you're thinking... you can bet I’m about to investigate this drag competition a little more thoroughly!

  • RuPaul’s Drag Race! – Hang on, hang on, hold the glitter glue! Did I mention “The Drag Race” event? I know I did, because you bet I made sure it was a stop on my itinerary. This event had to have been what spurred on the ultimate competition we all know and love – RuPaul's Drag Race! And to think it was happening just before my time. Oh the excitement, darling! This is enough for a whole post! You’ll have to wait for next month’s post!

  • From Derbyshire to Down Under! - A drag legend from Derbyshire - it has to be a highlight for any drag enthusiast. We even saw a handful of queens on this very day, heading off on an exciting tour. And believe me, darling, a little bird told me their performances were unforgettable. What did the locals say? * "Ooh, la la, these queens are absolutely amazing! They really are a true testament to drag at its best. And who knew that such a fab queen was from our very own Derbyshire?!”*

Living My Best Life: The Emma-issance of the Pink Tutu!

Seeing such amazing talent unleashed and experiencing this era of drag magic has fueled my soul. All I could think was "Emma, girl, you need to find a pink tutu, throw it on, and let's make some drag history."

There's something about the simple elegance and charm of a pink tutu, isn't there, darlings? It adds an extra touch of sweetness, a dash of playful magic. Let's face it, pink is not just a color; it’s an attitude. And trust me, it is a whole lot more fabulous than it seems.

It is this sense of joy and positivity that makes me believe in the transformative power of pink tutus. Think of the possibilities: a pink tutu on a runway, a pink tutu for a princess (or a prince!), a pink tutu on stage, or a pink tutu taking on the world - with love, laughter, and lots of glitter!

You see, darling, the world is your stage, your time machine is ready for you, and that magical pink tutu awaits! Until next month, stay fierce, and remember, the only limits are the ones we create ourselves.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some pink tulle to cut and a world of glittery adventures to explore!

Always in glitter,

Emma
