#DragQueenHistory: 12th December, 2001 - It's Tutu Time, Darling! (Blog Post #984)

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and I'm positively buzzing to be back on www.pink-tutu.com for another exciting jaunt through the annals of drag history!

December the 12th, 2001, oh the memories! Well, not personally, as you know I'm more of a time-travel-in-my-pink-tutu kind of gal. But imagine, darling! The year 2001! Just think, the first NSYNC album was fresh off the shelves (and *still on heavy rotation, darling, don't you dare say otherwise!), Paris Hilton was still a darling, not yet a diva (she has truly come into her own though, don't you think?), and we were all rocking our fabulous early-noughties fashion!

Speaking of fashion, darling, this month my pink tutu landed me straight at the door of New York's own, the legendary Flamingo Lounge. This dive bar was buzzing! It was a Tuesday night, the crowds were wild, and the music was pumping, all topped off by an incredible performance by the divine Lady Bunny, a true legend! She was positively fierce, you could tell she was already an established drag queen star at this time - she was sassy, funny, and the perfect mix of glamour and irreverence!

This night reminded me, darlings, of what it is we drag queens are truly about: laughter, freedom, and pushing those boundaries! I think Lady Bunny captured this spirit perfectly, as she belted out a series of iconic and unforgettable covers of famous tunes, each infused with her own brand of quirky wit and charm!

I must admit, I couldn't help but notice a certain je ne sais quoi missing. You know, darlings, a touch of, cough, pink, perhaps? Maybe a delicate sequined pink tutu paired with a cheeky feather boa for added glamour? Don't worry, Lady Bunny, I've got just the pink tutu for you if you want to have a little bit of fun next time you're on stage. My pink tutus come in every imaginable colour and pattern and have magical powers, which include guaranteeing you a fabulous time! Just sayin'.

Anyway, darling, this evening wasn't all about fabulousness on the stage, though I truly couldn't be happier about that - It was about being a community! The crowd was wild, with every single member wearing some kind of expression of their individuality, some even donning elaborate costumes, and all coming together to celebrate, connect and revel in the spirit of the evening!

And as always, darlings, you know me. I love a good gossip, especially when it's about drag history! It seems like December 12th, 2001, was an important day for our darling drag community. San Francisco's drag scene, well-known for being one of the largest in the entire world, saw The EndUp, a renowned club with a reputation for having some of the wildest, most incredible performances, celebrate a very special anniversary, 15 years of showcasing the very best of San Francisco drag! I bet those costumes were fabulous, I would love to know what the hottest looks were on this special occasion. If only we could travel back to that night... perhaps next month!

Anyway, back to our own adventures, darlings! In order to truly immerse myself in this fantastic drag night, and of course to replenish my energy after the travel to the U.S, I indulged myself in one of my favourite guilty pleasures - a late-night shopping trip. Now, I wouldn't consider this a shopping spree like some of those flamboyant queens I've met (you know who you are, darlings), but there were a few gems in those shops. My collection has been begging for a new blush-pink boa and you can't beat a vintage lace petticoat to add a little extra flourish to a sparkly tutu. (Note to self: I need to find some time to browse for those fabulous sequins.)

Honestly, darlings, the world of drag back then truly was magical. Just as exciting as my time travelling adventures! And while I did wear my own special sparkly pink tutu while in New York, I can't reveal its magic just yet. But let me tell you, darling, a good tutu can take you places you've never dreamed of!

You know, darlings, what I really love about being a time traveller in my pink tutu, is not just the glitz and the glamour. I love being part of history, but even more importantly, being part of something that feels bigger than just one single night. It’s about a sense of community, a sense of family, that exists amongst us drag queens, through the decades! That feeling, darlings, is truly magical, and worth more than all the feathers and sequins in the world.

Right, darlings, gotta get a wiggle on and prepare for my next time-travel adventure! Remember, darlings, a pink tutu isn't just about glamour, it's about joy, self-expression, and above all, having a bit of fun with yourself. And don't forget, I can't wait to see what wonderful, fabulous, pink-tutu filled adventures await me next! Until next month!

And don't forget, darlings, www.pink-tutu.com is the place to be for all your drag history, time travel, and tutus needs. We have the largest collection of pink tutus on the planet! Be fabulous!

Xoxo
