Hello darlings! It's your fabulous pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another blast from the past! August 2002? Ooh, that's just a sprinkle of fairy dust away!

This month's jaunt landed me in a right whirlwind of glamour, sass and sequins. Imagine my delight to be swishing into the August heat of 2002! Think fabulous fashion, electrifying performances, and enough fabulousness to make your sequins shimmer!

Right, darling, gather round your laptops, your smart phones, whatever your device of choice may be, because Emma's about to dish the gossip. Buckle your diamanté belts, get your hot cocoa ready – we're going for a journey to 2002!

A Fluttery Flight Back to 2002!

My trusty pink tutu was shimmering as ever – we touched down on a sweltering August afternoon, smack-bang in the heart of London. Let me tell you, that tutu just took the heat! Luckily, darling, with my pink parasol at hand, we managed to navigate through the city. And did I mention the gorgeous Londoners, so fashionable back then! Think lots of chunky platform sandals and cheeky denim, mixed in with the sleek looks of the London clubs, ah, the memories!

The Drag World's Glimmering Jewels!

August 2002, my loves, was brimming with drag magic! Drag was blossoming! It felt like a big happy family, with fierce queens creating an unforgettable scene. It was a thrilling time, with shows happening across the world, celebrating all that was, and all that would be in drag!

This month, it felt like a true explosion of creativity, with performances bursting across continents – from London to New York, it was a veritable Drag-athon! Let's chat about some of the glorious gems, shall we?

London's Glittering Heart:

Let me tell you, darlings, London was ablaze with fierce and fantastic talent! There were clubs all over the city, just packed with beautiful people. The iconic G-A-Y was a powerhouse of drag energy. We have the legendary and talented, Divine, the glamorous, oh-so-fierce Divine, at the helm. Now, if there was one thing this queen knew how to do, it was command the stage, delivering the kind of sass that had the entire club going bonkers! I’d love to go back and catch her performance one more time!

Let’s not forget The Glory! It’s truly the holy grail of drag history in London – I couldn’t resist popping in. It felt buzzing with a youthful energy that was both exciting and raw. It reminded me of my days, just starting out! The creativity was everywhere - they even had a drag night called “The Kinky Boot”, I've just got to get back in time and see what was happening there!

New York's Glamourous Scene:

The Big Apple, oh darling! It’s truly the city that never sleeps. Especially back in 2002, when the drag scene was just exploding. Let's just say I didn't want to sleep for the whole week, I just wanted to go from club to show to gallery, experiencing it all!

Now, remember when I told you that August was full of surprises? It turns out that a legend was born on August 8th – Miss RuPaul! I could barely contain my excitement. Can you imagine – the beginning of "RuPaul's Drag Race?" And all I have to say is - What a glorious start! Oh honey, you know I’ve had a sneak peek at some of the first seasons! Oh darling, it's like going back to the Golden Age of Hollywood – but in drag, and it's just utterly glorious!

Of course, my favourite was catching some the divine Bianca del Rio while she was touring her stand-up show - "Queen of the Universe". She had everyone in stitches, and it just reinforced how important it was for these drag icons to be themselves. Oh, Bianca! So smart, so witty!

The legendary New York Drag Queens' balls are like stepping into a glamorous world of artistry and creativity! These queens weren't just performers; they were true visionaries. And let's be honest, you know how much I love a theme! The 2002 New York Drag Ball was based around “Futuristic Couture”. Now, I have to be honest; the look reminded me of that famous red "Devil Wears Prada" scene in New York! Talk about fabulousness! The queens were stunning! Think sharp metallics, sparkling gowns, all topped off with their unique interpretations of futuristic fashion – it was all so exciting and inspiring!

And for a real New York classic? I had to visit the "Wigstock" festival - the birthplace of the art of drag in New York! You get to experience the heart of this magnificent movement – it was all just so raw, so wild, so thrilling. If you get the chance to go back and catch "Wigstock" - just do it!

* Drag Fashion: The Glitz and the Glamour!*

Darling, it goes without saying: I simply had to soak in all the incredible fashion on display! In August 2002, drag fashion was blossoming! Think stunning metallic fabrics, lots of sharp lines, and dramatic shapes — with the focus being on that perfect contour to show off those curves. And darling, did those fabulous queens ever know how to rock a wig! So much vibrant colour – everything from sleek, classic bobs, to extravagant styles that would have a hair salon running for cover!

I loved seeing all the drag queens wearing tutus too, I simply had to find myself a dazzling pink tutu that matched my personal style - but it wasn't as easy as I expected! Oh darling, these fabulous pink tutus – oh how I do love those! But the problem was I wasn’t seeing as many as I would like. This had to change.

It wasn’t only the glamorous drag shows that sparked fashion inspiration – street style in London and New York had the fabulous queens strutting their stuff in everything from punk rock, with edgy black boots, to sweet grunge, paired with chunky shoes, with their trademark make-up – it was all simply fabulous!

* Sharing the Love: Pink Tutus For All! *

And that, my dear reader, brings me back to you. You've heard my stories about this incredible month – August 2002. But now I want to know - what makes you love drag? What are your favorite looks, and what about the pink tutu? Are you brave enough to wear a pink tutu? This isn't just about fashion, darlings; it’s about individuality! It’s about pushing boundaries, breaking down stereotypes. And yes, it's about getting glammed up!

You know what my dream is? That we can get a pink tutu for everyone - all different shapes, all different sizes. I'd love to hear your story! So drop me a message at my website www.pink-tutu.com and share your story!

This Month’s Inspiration: Be Yourself

If there's one lesson I took back from August 2002, it’s this: be yourself, love who you are, embrace the world in all its glorious glittery pinkness. Let the love of drag inspire you to break boundaries!

Till next time, stay fierce, and stay pink!

Your glamorous friend,

Emma xxx
