So, strap on your favourite sequined shoes, darling, 'cause it's gonna be a right old knees up!

This is my 998th post for www.pink-tutu.com, can you believe it?!

Let’s get this month's history post flowing! This February in 2003, my pink tutu carried me to the heart of Downtown Manhattan, a whirlwind of iconic drag history. Imagine this: towering buildings, street corners brimming with artistry, and a spirit that just screams “dare to be different."

As always, my trusty time-traveling tutu landed me bang in the middle of the hottest drag events – the very pulse of the scene.

My first stop: The Duplex! It was a Wednesday night, and the iconic Greenwich Village cabaret was bustling with laughter, music, and all kinds of glamorous drag divas. This venue was a haven for talented queens who dreamed big, showcasing all forms of art – comedy, singing, storytelling – with the spirit of true drag queen charisma. You really couldn't tell it was just a Wednesday, darling!

On another unforgettable night, I made my way to the legendary The Stonewall Inn. Oh, what a night that was! I saw queens serving absolute fierceness with fierce lip-sync battles to iconic tunes that still give me goosebumps to this day. Remember the Spice Girls, darling? They were EVERYTHING! This place felt like an eruption of glitter and fierce sass. The spirit of rebellion – the fire that ignited the modern drag movement – could still be felt in the very air.

And for the grand finale, The Pyramid Club. A downtown haven that exuded artistry in all its forms, it had been the site of legendary performances by so many legends throughout the years. Now it was my turn to witness their unique blend of avant-garde drag and fierce dancing – oh, and the costumes! We're talking haute couture feathers and slinky, fabulous fashion that was utterly hypnotic.

But my journey wasn’t all about the glitz and glam, darlings! This February, my time travel gave me an insight into the everyday life of queens. It wasn’t just the shows, oh no, it was the camaraderie, the strength and the inspiration that oozed from every corner. It was seeing these incredible talents putting together a show in the afternoon, sewing beads onto costumes in dimly lit rehearsal spaces, churning out iconic makeup looks – all of it, darling, before taking centre stage under the spotlight later that evening. It was heart-warming!

Speaking of make-up! The "glam" of this period was SO good, darling! The heavy black eyeliner, the bold colours and the shimmering sparkle! The way the queens played with their look – whether fierce or playful – was incredible.

What about you darlings? Did you see any shows in February 2003? I would LOVE to hear all about it! And remember – keep those pink tutus handy, darlings! Until next month, it's “Pink-Tutu" Emma saying goodbye – keep it fab, keep it sassy, keep it pink! ✨
