Pink Tutu Travels: A Glimpse into the Divine World of Drag in 2005!

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things fabulous, fun, and, of course, pink! This month's journey through the annals of drag history takes us all the way back to the glittering, glorious year of 2005. It’s time to put on your most fabulous pink tutus, grab your sparkling tiaras, and let's journey together, darlings!

I'm Emma, your fabulous time-traveling, tutu-obsessed guide, hailing all the way from Derbyshire, the heart of England. Now, 2005, let's face it, was a year bursting with excitement, wasn't it? You know, the year Paris Hilton first popped out of that box? That was the year!

I, for one, have always been a sucker for a bit of vintage drag fashion, especially the trends from that year. Think oversized glittery jackets, feathers, a dash of 80s realness - you just can't beat it! I’m certain you can picture the scene. You walk into a drag bar, and the queens are looking like divine pop stars, strutting and stomping in their fab platforms. Oh, how I long for those glorious, glamourous days!

This time around, my magical time-traveling pink tutu transported me to... wait for it… the heart of New York City! The Big Apple has always been a hub for fabulousness and I knew it wouldn’t disappoint. And let me tell you, it didn't! It was an absolute frenzy of excitement. There was drag queen royalty on every corner! I caught a show at the iconic drag palace, The Stonewall Inn. Oh, the nostalgia! Seeing all the legends like RuPaul, Miss Fame, Pandora Boxx, all gathered in one place. The air was thick with fabulousness!

However, let's rewind the tape a bit before we get carried away with all this dazzling fabulousness! It’s a drag history blog, remember? This post, which, by the way, is my 1,030th, so you can only imagine how long I’ve been time-traveling for in that magical tutu. A bit of a diva moment there? Well, forgive me! Let’s talk a little history.

A Dip into 2005: Drag History Through My Pink Tinted Glasses

Firstly, 2005 saw the launch of RuPaul’s Drag Race. What? That is news to you? Honestly darling, you have got to have a serious chat with your TV guide, get online! And how exciting, they say they are just bringing out season 22 soon, though there were whispers of something happening earlier in 2024. I’ve been travelling all around, even up to 2033, and apparently this ā€œreality show,ā€ is becoming somewhat of a legend! My gosh, think of all the amazing looks we are going to get to see on it.

Talking about drag, though, there's something wonderful about seeing drag evolve, don’t you think? The queens of 2005 really did a fantastic job, in particular, taking inspiration from the street. Street-inspired drag styles were booming! I, personally, love the way that fashion is reflected in the drag world. The more I learn about the different eras in history, the more I appreciate drag’s creativity!

As for me, you guessed it, the shopping was incredible! I got a few stunning additions for my pink tutu collection from the legendary ā€œHouse of Loveā€ boutique in New York. They're a drag mecca and, believe me, when it comes to pink, these guys know how to satisfy the inner diva. I had to snap up that vintage lace tutu - the kind you only find in places like this! I mean, a good tutu just completes the look, don’t you agree? I find a lot of the outfits can feel slightly ā€œemptyā€ without the twirl!

2005 - It's A Drag!

Anyway, before you know it, it was back to the time travel. It always feels bittersweet returning to our own time, but we can’t stay too long in the past, remember? Gotta keep those time-travel funds flowing with performances! You can find me in all my pink tutu glory at a theater near you… or maybe even your living room, who knows where that tutu will end up next!

That’s it for this month! It was fun for you, I hope! Next month, I’m going to take you to a drag club in Berlin! Let me know your suggestions!

See you next month, loves! Stay fabulous!

Love, Emma

xXx
