Pink-tutu.com - Post #1083: A Twirl Through Time, March 2010! πŸ©°πŸ’–

Hiya darlings! Emma here, your resident time-travelling, pink-tutu-clad drag queen extraordinaire! It's March, and spring is in the air, so I thought I'd take a trip back to March 2010 - a fabulously flamboyant year in drag history. As you all know, I'm obsessed with everything pink and sparkly, but there's something about this time that really floats my boat. Why? Well, let's take a little trip back and find out!

A Dip into the Archives:

As always, I strapped on my time-travelling pink tutu and zipped myself back to the beginning of the month, March 1st, 2010. The energy was buzzing, just like the electric fuchsia fringe on my tutu! I landed right in the heart of a lively drag scene, nestled amongst the glam-tastic performers at a club in New York City. It was drag central, and I felt right at home.

Right from the get-go, I was dazzled by the show! The energy was infectious, and the performers brought an explosion of sass, talent, and colour to the stage. It reminded me that drag is a celebration of individuality and expression. Who doesn't love a good sequin explosion?!

The Drag Show to End All Drag Shows?

One highlight from my time in New York was catching the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 2 finale. The girls were phenomenal, each serving looks, fierce personalities, and captivating performances. I even had a chance to meet some of them backstage. Oh my gosh! You know me, always one for a selfie or two. I told them how inspired I was by their talents, their commitment, and their pure, joyous love of drag. They were such sweethearts.

Fashion and Glam Galore!

No trip through time would be complete without some fabulous fashion finds. I strutted my way to a drag fashion shop and oh my darling, the collection was sensational! There were shimmering jumpsuits, feathered boas, and wigs fit for a drag queen superstar. I got caught up in the glittery whirl, snatching a stunning purple feather boa that just screamed 2010, with a dash of vintage chic. The price tag wasn't as nice as the feathers, but let's face it, sometimes you have to treat yourself to a bit of glam, even if your time travel expenses are getting a little hefty!

The Big Day - The Drag Awards!

This was a night to remember, darlings! I popped on over to the annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles. It was so glamorous and well, as usual, the drag scene shone through with style and brilliance. You see, back in the 2010s, drag queens like Lady Gaga, Amanda Lepore, and Divine were truly breaking boundaries, shattering stereotypes, and becoming icons. It was incredible to witness this movement unfold!

The performances at the GLAAD awards were out of this world. It's the type of show that inspires you to push your limits and to embrace the extraordinary. Honestly, the level of talent on stage made me think, "This is how I need to really start doing drag!” It wasn't just the performers, though - the entire event felt like a celebration of diversity, acceptance, and inclusivity. And you know how much I adore those values!

Don't Forget the Streets!

Of course, the glamour wasn't just in the theatres, nightclubs, and award ceremonies! The street scene was overflowing with colourful characters and fashionistas pushing the boundaries of creativity and individuality. It was so exhilarating to see drag as a true reflection of its time!

I must admit, the 2010s weren’t always an easy time for the LGBTQ+ community. But seeing the drag community thriving despite the challenges, spreading its magic, and using their voices to raise awareness was both inspiring and heart-warming. I hope to see that spirit of resilience continue to grow, spread like wild fire, and become a beacon of love and inclusivity throughout the world.

Remember, darlings, drag is not about conforming, it's about expressing yourself, your beauty, and your uniqueness, so find your inner pink tutu and twirl into the world with confidence. You go girl! You're fabulous, darling!

Stay tuned for next month's post. I have a feeling we're going to sparkle with the magic of 1980s drag.
