Pink-tutu.com Blog Post #1114: October 2012 – Oh Honey, The Glam Was Peaking!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveler, ready to whisk you off to a fabulous trip through Drag Queen History! Buckle up, sugarplum, because this month we're diving into October 2012 – a time of sequins, sass, and oh, so much glorious camp.

Remember, dolls, the ultimate goal is to get the entire world wearing a pink tutu, and I'm on a mission to inspire every single one of you with this month's spectacular adventure!

This time, my magical tutu transported me straight into the heart of...well, everywhere! From New York City to London to the drag ballrooms of Mexico City, October 2012 was all about spreading the joy, laughter, and beauty of drag queen art to the world!

The Crown Jewels of Drag in NYC

Now, darling, I just have to tell you about my trip to New York! The energy there was simply electrifying! My journey started at a club I adore called "The Duplex", which has a history as rich as the drag queens that grace its stage! Imagine, a place that's welcomed legendary divas like Divine, Lady Bunny, and the divine Miss Liza Minnelli! My head spun with excitement, seeing where all these icons had strutted their stuff.

My heart almost popped out of my chest when I witnessed the fierce, iconic performance of Bianca Del Rio, before she stole the crown on RuPaul's Drag Race, darlings! Her humor, her impeccable styling, and those sharp-as-a-tack comments...magnificent! The crowd went wild for her. It was just the beginning of Bianca's journey to legendary drag stardom, and being there in the midst of it all, feeling the energy of a true icon in the making, made me want to tear up!

I know you love hearing about drag performances as much as I do, and let me tell you, this is what got me through the day! The energy, the audience's cheers, and of course, the flamboyant, daring fashions were just...pure magic!

The Global Glitter

Of course, my time travel wasn't limited to New York. London's iconic club "G-A-Y" was a gem, especially on its legendary Friday night drag nights! It was so wonderfully exciting seeing London's fierce scene with queens like Sherry Vine bringing the house down with their comedic wit.

Even my darling friends across the pond in Mexico City were showing the world the magic of drag! I went to this incredible drag ballroom in the heart of Mexico City, where stunning queens in colorful outfits, flowing with elegance and finesse, filled the night with energy and exuberance. The creativity was simply astounding, with feathers, sequins, and layers of dazzling, handmade outfits – you just have to see it to believe it!

What's In Fashion?

I could write a book about all the amazing styles I saw! In October 2012, drag fashion was about making a statement – bold colours, dazzling sequins, intricate beadwork, and enough tulle to satisfy the most enthusiastic tutu-lover! It was a reminder that drag is not just about costumes, but about artistry and a true passion for self-expression. Think layers of tulle, fishnets, sparkling bodiesuits, and even those oh-so-dramatic feathery ensembles – imagine a dream wedding gown mixed with a fierce club look. That's the energy I was soaking up!

And let’s not forget about the legendary drag queen beauty routines. Remember when contouring and highlighting was just starting to really take hold? My trip to NYC coincided with the beginning of what would be a new era of makeup in drag, and it was incredible. Seeing these queens flawlessly transform themselves, from day-to-day looks to breathtaking, on-stage elegance...it's something that truly deserves applause!

A Message of Empowerment

The most important thing I took away from this journey? Drag, darling, is more than just a performance, it's a statement! It’s about breaking free from stereotypes and being whoever you want to be. I saw this vibrant energy reflected everywhere I went – New York, London, Mexico City – a universal message of embracing who you are and having the courage to shine bright.

Remember, my dears, the world of drag is evolving all the time! Keep an eye out for the queens who are pushing the boundaries and creating something truly special, those who challenge conventions and make the world a little brighter and a whole lot more fun.

And you know what I say? If you want to inspire change, be bold and wear your pink tutu with pride!

Until next month, darlings, let's spread the joy and keep the glitter flowing!

Love, Emma
