Darling, it's your girl Emma here, back with another exciting journey through the captivating world of Drag! Get ready for your teacup to spill as I share my recent escapade into the glamour of September 2013 - a period overflowing with the glitter, the theatricality, and of course, the fabulous pink tutus!
This month's time travel was especially divine. Picture this: a swirl of pink tulle, my trusty magical tutu twirling me through the corridors of time, a shimmering backdrop of sparkling drag history unfolding around me. It's a time traveler's dream!
Now, let me tell you about what caught my eye during this delightful visit to the past:
First Stop: New York City, September 15th
As soon as I arrived, I knew I was in the heart of drag's biggest heartbeat - New York! And you just had to be there on the 15th of September to witness the glorious Miss Fame Drag Brunch at The Eagle NYC. The energy was electrifying! These queens were a force to be reckoned with, delivering high-energy performances that would make even the most seasoned drag diva weep with joy. This event was a celebration of the art of drag, a gathering of fierce talent that made me incredibly proud to call myself a part of this glorious community. I managed to snag a picture with Miss Fame herself, wearing a simply exquisite shimmering green outfit that matched her fabulous eyeshadow - utterly divine!
Then, it was on to the Big Apple’s beloved Drag Extravaganza: “Wigstock”!
This annual festival of all things drag is simply iconic, darlings. Think colourful outfits, extravagant wigs, and enough glitter to cover a small village - truly an experience I'll never forget! Seeing these queens express themselves freely, celebrating the vibrant kaleidoscope of drag styles, truly cemented my belief in the power of drag to empower, inspire, and celebrate individuality.
Next Stop: Manchester, UK – The Heart of the Drag Scene
Back across the pond I popped, my trusty tutu guiding me to the buzzing streets of Manchester, a place I’ve always held dear to my heart!
Manchester's always been a fabulous hub for drag performance, but this September was extra special. I went to The Factory - a fantastic drag night hosted by the incomparable Holly Starshot – a drag superstar who always gives it her all!
I couldn’t help myself; I had to join in with the dancing and laughter. It’s no surprise I spent a considerable amount of time twirling with a fellow tutu-enthusiast - we danced like nobody was watching, as we embraced the spirit of drag – an absolute tonic for the soul, I tell you!
Last stop – Derbyshire!
This was the highlight of the trip, darling, as it’s where I find my own fabulous roots! Being a Derbyshire lass, my home county always brings back such wonderful memories, and this month I decided to delve into my own local drag scene. I discovered a beautiful new drag venue called “The Purple Door” – nestled away on a cobbled street. It felt so cosy and familiar, a proper home for Derbyshire drag fans to unleash their inner sparkle.
It’s an exciting time to be a drag fan in the UK, darling! And September 2013 was absolutely no exception. Seeing the scene develop, grow, and evolve is a true joy. Every new event, every new queen – all just reinforcing how much this art form holds its place at the heart of creativity, inclusion, and acceptance!
And as for my mission, to get everyone wearing a pink tutu - well, September certainly had its moments of fabulous success! In New York, Manchester and Derbyshire I witnessed firsthand how drag embraces self-expression. Whether it be the fierce glam of New York's drag queens, the flamboyant showmanship in Manchester, or the intimate artistry of my own Derbyshire locals, there is an unwavering desire to push creative boundaries and explore the potential of fashion.
Now, while I'm passionate about encouraging the glorious embrace of pink tutus, it’s not about forcing it, darlings! True beauty comes from within. Every queen shines with her unique spark - her unique style, and her own personal journey. And whether it’s in a bold gown or a sassy little tutu, my dearest reader, I hope this post has shown you that there's a place for every queen to radiate their individuality and spread joy and beauty – and, maybe even a touch of pink, because why not?
That’s all from me for now. Stay fabulous, darling. Be proud to embrace your inner sparkle, and always wear your tutu with confidence. Until next time, keep the faith and embrace your divine self!
Lots of love,
Emma xoxo
