Hello darlings! Emma here, your resident time travelling, tutu-wearing, drag enthusiast! Today we're taking a trip to the fabulous month of March 2014. Buckle up buttercups, this one's a real humdinger!
Oh darling, March 2014, it was simply positively divine! Let’s start with the most magical bit, my darlings… the fashion. March was a fabulous month for fashion. I mean, can we talk about how Balenciaga literally brought back the 80s and it was like a dream come true for this pink-loving, tutu-obsessed girl! They had huge puffy shoulders and all sorts of voluminous looks and oh my, I wanted it all! They were bringing the fabulous back to the runway and I, my darling, was living for it! Plus, Alexander McQueen were serving all the drama, they always know how to deliver the drama. And what's a trip back to 2014 without seeing Marc Jacobs, I'm talking big hair, bold looks and I simply couldn’t get enough!
But fashion wasn't the only thing that made March 2014 such a memorable month! Remember RuPaul's Drag Race season 6, which was just reaching its crescendo?! All the queens were serving major looks! This season was packed with so much talent, camp, and drama, darling! You had Bianca Del Rio, who was the undisputed queen of shade. The hilarious and relatable, BenDeLaCreme, with her stunning artistry, and Trinity K. Bonet, who brought so much beauty and performance talent to the stage. Honestly, every single one of them was serving looks and personality! Oh, it was the season that just kept on giving! And just before we jumped through time to our lovely Derbyshire home, we caught a snatch of the season six reunion special – such fierce drama, with a wee little shade thrown here and there!
Now let’s talk about the Drag performances that had my pink heart a-flutter. We had the opportunity to catch Alaska Thunderfuck, darling, a fierce, camp, and theatrical drag queen who absolutely owned every performance she gave! Oh, and did I mention that Adore Delano was just about to release her album! She had already stolen our hearts in Drag Race Season 6 with her heartfelt performances, her powerhouse vocals, and the fact she truly embodied what it means to be yourself.
Then there were shows! So many shows. It was a month packed to the gills! From the glitter-studded stage shows that were taking over London’s West End, oh honey, that whole district is just a glittering delight! The energy was just phenomenal and to the cabaret performances in the small, intimate pubs around our beautiful little Derbyshire, it felt like every night there was something going on! The atmosphere, the people, and the music, it truly felt like an incredible time.
You know I am a drag enthusiast to my very core! Oh darling, I am a queen of drag culture and the pink tutu! You see, we all are! We all embody that inner queen of sass, that diva of elegance. Just look at you, darling, right this moment! You are in a tutu too. Don't pretend you're not. Just wait. You’ll soon embrace the inner pink-tutu-wearing queen! Trust me!
Oh, speaking of our beloved pink tutus… our pink-tutu-time-travelling attire is going to need a quick freshen up after all this dancing around through time! But fear not! We’ll get back to the lovely time machine, wash away the sequins, iron our ruffles, and I will continue on my quest, you know, the most important one: Getting all you fab darlings to join the pink tutu revolution. Come on, it'll be a right laugh, I promise you!
Don't forget, darlings, to subscribe to my website at www.pink-tutu.com, and come back for another drag queen history journey with me, next month! I promise more fabulous times! Until then, keep rocking that pink tutu and keep spreading the joy of drag!
Until next time, darlings! Keep it pink!
xoxo, Emma, The Pink Tutu Queen
