Hiya darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu-clad time-travelling blogger. Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It's been a while since our last jaunt through the annals of drag history, hasn't it? We've been rather busy perfecting our pirouette in the 1800s - all that crinolined elegance can really wear you out! But I'm back with a brand-new entry, and this time, we're venturing right into the year 2020, babes! Can you believe it?!
Now, let's face it, 2020 was...a year, wasn't it? A true rollercoaster of emotions and a time when we all discovered new levels of creativity (thanks to our newfound Zoom skills, darlings!). But as we're delving back into September 2020 specifically, we're leaving the year's overall craziness behind, and instead, focusing on the fabulous things!
September 2020: A Time of Drag Transformation
What were we up to in the world of drag this particular month? Oh, let me tell you! It was a time of change and evolution, my dears. The world was starting to cautiously reopen after lockdown, and drag was right there alongside, bringing the sparkle and joy we all so desperately craved. It was a month that saw us pushing boundaries and embracing diversity like never before!
Imagine it, darlings, a world just reawakening from lockdown! Streets were teeming with folks ready to see the show, and oh my, what a show it was! Theatres were starting to reopen their doors, drag shows were coming back with a bang, and the world was ready to embrace drag like never before. And you know me, dear readers, a girl with a penchant for pink tutus like myself simply had to be right in the middle of all of it!
New York City, Baby!
Naturally, my time-travelling pink tutu had us waltzing straight into New York City. We're talking the Mecca of Drag, darlings! A place where legend lives and the streets ooze sass. The energy was electric! I couldn't believe the number of drag shows, with all their fabulousness packed into tiny nightclubs, and even on the sidewalks. Drag queens of every shape, size, and colour were showcasing their talents, bringing laughter, joy, and inspiration to everyone who came to witness their art.
But there was more to September 2020 than just drag shows, my dears. The fabulous RuPaul's Drag Race was in full swing, and season 12 was airing! This season had a special place in our hearts, as we all knew the amazing season was set to feature queens like Jackie Cox, Heidi N Closet, and Gigi Goode! Talk about some unforgettable talents!
The beauty of that particular season was how it allowed viewers to connect on such a personal level with these phenomenal queens. With all the difficulties and challenges of the time, drag allowed everyone a way to escape the harsh realities and embrace the world of fantasy and fun! We learned about the struggles these queens overcame, the hardships they faced, and the joy and acceptance they brought into the world.
Beyond the Big Apple
It wouldn't be a true Pink-Tutu time travel adventure if we didn't hop continents, now, would it? This time, our fabulous pink tutu flew us across the pond to London, darlings! Ah, London! Always so stylish, so cultured! We strutted straight to the West End, where we found an exciting, emerging drag scene. Theatres and nightclubs were overflowing with diverse talent, from fabulous cabaret performances to captivating theatrical shows!
September 2020 in London also saw the rise of several online drag performances, as many performers had found unique and creative ways to continue showcasing their talent even during the pandemic! This adaptability and innovation truly solidified drag's presence in the world and showed just how powerful this art form is. It simply refuses to be confined!
And if that wasn't enough, London had a drag scene unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Think everything from quirky, off-the-wall performance art to glittering, glitzy lip-sync battles – a true drag extravaganza! It was a month to be remembered for London's unique and growing drag culture!
But wait, there's more!
While New York and London held some truly memorable experiences, we also couldn't miss out on the vibrant scenes brewing in countries across the world! Australia was ablaze with exciting talent, drag performers embraced social media to reach their fans and continue their performance journey, and Europe was showcasing their amazing local talent. We’re talking unique drag aesthetics and styles from all across the globe, which was so exciting to witness!
Oh, darling, what a time it was! But let's rewind back to you lovely lot. What about all those delicious outfits you see me strutting in? Do you think it's the time travel tutu that does the magic? Oh honey, it's far more complicated than that! It all begins with a fabulous fashion tip: It's the tutus, darlings! The tuts!
Tutu, Tutu, Absolutely Fabulous
And now for the pièce de résistance, my darlings! Yes, let's talk tutus! We're still firmly in the reign of the Pink Tutu in this blog, but let's not limit our horizons, shall we? All tutus are beautiful, every shade and silhouette! Let's remember, drag is all about self-expression, about embracing those unique elements of your inner diva, and the tutu is a beautiful emblem of that.
As September 2020 unfurled, it saw drag fashion really stepping up its game! Think sequins, sparkles, bold colours, feathers galore, and oh yes, loads of glorious tutus, every style you can dream up. This was the era of a true fashion revolution! The sheer variety of materials, colours, and embellishments were breathtaking! It was a time where queens were experimenting with diverse aesthetics, drawing inspiration from a plethora of influences. From historical ball gowns to modern avant-garde designs, it was all about creating an eye-catching visual spectacle.
The fabulous drag fashion scene that blossomed was more than just clothes, darlings. It was a powerful statement of self-expression and individuality. With each extravagant outfit, each dazzling accessory, queens were proclaiming: "Look at me! This is who I am!" It was a testament to the powerful art of drag.
A Moment of Gratitude
As we step out of the time machine for this month, darlings, I wanted to leave you with a heartfelt thank you. Thank you for letting me share this incredible journey of drag history with you. The energy, the passion, the diversity - it truly is magical. And, don't forget, my sweethearts, every day is a chance to express your fabulous self!
And let's all try to be just as colourful as drag, shall we? Keep it fabulous, and never, ever be afraid to shine! And as for my grand mission - everyone in a pink tutu! It's all about love, inclusivity, and of course, that beautiful, empowering expression. Until next time, stay glamorous!
With all the love in the world, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
