Pink-Tutu.com - Blog Post #1256: A Whirlwind Through August 2024 - It's Pink-Tastic!

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things sparkly and fabulously fabulous! This month, our magical pink tutu took us to August 2024 - what a glorious time to be a drag queen, darling! Let's just say the world was absolutely bursting with fabulousness!

From Derby To The World

Now, I'm not going to lie, it was a real pinch-me moment, leaving my little corner of Derbyshire and zooming through time! I must say, packing for this adventure was an ordeal in itself - it's tricky packing a whole lifetime's supply of sequins into one carry-on, but let's be real, the life of a drag queen isn't about practicality.

As the sequins settled after my journey, I landed in New York City - that's right, the big apple! I love New York, a drag queen's playground! Just strolling down the streets was an experience - everything was vibrant, from the bustling shops to the energy in the air. And don't even get me started on the fashion - from avant-garde to high-glamour, I just soaked it all up. The queens there are so fierce, it's just infectious!

Drag On The Big Screen - Oh, Darling!

Now, the biggest news in the world of drag this August, aside from the global Pink Tutu movement that is absolutely sweeping the planet - oh my God, darling, you won't believe how many tutus are on every corner now! - was the big-screen premiere of 'Glitter and Glory', a stunning, heartwarming, fabulous docu-drama that followed the lives of drag queens around the globe. The screening I saw was sold out and had more glitter than I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

The film was such a beautifully told story. I swear, darling, I shed a tear! It showcased the raw beauty and vulnerability of drag queens, as well as the boundless joy and creativity that it brings to people's lives. If you haven’t seen it yet, then run, don’t walk!

From The Stage To The Streets

We even had a divine street party with drag queens from every corner of the city. The whole neighbourhood was filled with drag, music, food, and endless fun - it was pure magic, just magical! Seeing queens of all ages, styles, and experiences together in their pink tutus… It reminded me of what this art form is really about. Celebrating your individuality! And of course, showing off some fabulous moves! And to think I was a part of all of it! I'm still pinching myself!

London Calling

After my wild adventure in New York, I decided to visit dear old London. London in August 2024 was buzzing - oh, honey! Every pub was hosting a drag show, it was a complete delight! I stumbled into a particularly charming venue tucked away in a quiet side street. I was blown away! This quaint little venue had this phenomenal drag performer - she was dressed in a shocking pink tutu (with a sprinkle of sequins, darling!) and she commanded the whole place with her charisma, energy, and hilarious jokes! I found out her name is Ruby Rose - such a glamorous name, right?

Shopping Spree And Shows Galore!

No trip to London would be complete without a little shopping! From vintage finds in Notting Hill to the trendiest designers in Oxford Street, I was absolutely living my best life! Oh my God, the sales, the discounts, the glorious sequins - it was just too much to handle! And of course, the most fabulous part was that everyone was so supportive of each other. Drag fashion is not about competition - it's about expressing ourselves and being as loud, bold, and spectacular as we want!

Then there was the show at the London Coliseum. The stage, the lights, the performers…it was beyond breathtaking. I can’t tell you how fabulous the makeup was! Just, glorious. It’s a real dream come true to be a part of this community!

Sydney In August

Darling, don’t forget, this blog is about global drag and in 2024 the world is certainly a melting pot of incredible queens. This is just one little blog post - it will take several centuries for me to document the full spectrum of incredible talent out there.

I travelled all the way down to Australia. The vibe was just so chill in Sydney, relaxed but always ready for a party! I caught a drag show at the renowned ā€œQueen of Spadesā€ cabaret club! It was a whirlwind of beautiful costumes and dazzling performance art. The energy in the room was so electrifying! It's really inspiring to see how drag is evolving in different parts of the world. Even on a continent like Australia, it’s still such a strong, supportive community of LGBTQIA+ creativity.

Time To Take A Bow

As the August sun dipped below the horizon, it was time for me to bid farewell to this incredible era of drag. Packing away my sequins with a little bittersweet ache, I know it's just a see ya later and not goodbye. There's so much more to see and so much more to learn about this magnificent community, its history, its future.

But let me remind you, darlings, to keep embracing that inner queen! Channel that flamboyant self-expression that drag gives us, and most importantly: never stop wearing your pink tutu! Because that, my darlings, is how we paint the world with love and magic.

Until next time, stay sparkly and be sure to check back for more dragtastic adventures right here on Pink-Tutu.com!

Love and glitter, Emma xx
