As usual, my trusty pink tutu has whisked me away on another whirlwind tour, and this time we're dipping our toes (well, sparkly heels) into the fabulous world of drag as it was in... wait for it... March 2025! Can you believe it? It feels like only yesterday we were twirling through the Roaring Twenties, and here we are, a whole 3 years into the future. The time truly does fly when you're having fun, darling!
Now, this trip had me all fluttered with excitement, because 2025... oh honey, 2025 is a year where drag is booming! It's like a magical rainbow explosion of artistry, talent, and sass, all over the globe! Imagine it... a future where the world embraces the magnificent beauty and queer magic of drag queens like a delicious, sugary cupcake. Mwah!
And speaking of cupcakes... or maybe even a little bit of meringue pie? Let me tell you, this trip was absolutely delicious. As a passionate drag historian (and, ahem, self-proclaimed queen of the pink tutu, don't forget!), I simply had to share this magical journey with you all!
Firstly, darling, it's no secret that in 2025, everything revolves around social media! The Drag scene has been buzzing with digital platforms for years now, but oh darling, you haven't seen anything until you've seen it on DragTik! This incredible app is a melting pot of everything drag: hilarious lip sync videos, breathtaking makeup tutorials, fabulous outfit changes - all with a sprinkle of cheeky drag queen humor! I even filmed a quick "Tutu Time Travel" tutorial for the platform (watch this space!) which, I might add, went completely viral! My heart still skips a beat just thinking about all those sparkling, sassy views!
But hold onto your pearls, because there's so much more to this enchanting era of drag than just digital fame! The year 2025 was also a monumental time for live drag shows! I hopped onto the "Tutu Time Travel Express" and went on a delightful whirlwind tour, landing in New York, London, Sydney... oh, my darling! * You wouldn't believe the performances! From incredible storytelling to fierce lip sync battles, every show felt like an absolute masterpiece. And don't even get me started on the outfits! I am still utterly spellbound by a gorgeous shimmering blue and silver gown adorned with hundreds of iridescent feathers. I saw it during a mind-blowing, larger-than-life performance in New York... *oh, darling I almost burst into tears! It was simply divine!
Another remarkable event that stole my heart this year was the Global Drag Convention held in Madrid. Can you imagine? Hundreds of queens from all around the globe coming together for a spectacular weekend of workshops, shows, and fierce collaborations. I even caught a performance from a breathtaking trans-queen duo from Thailand who captivated the entire crowd with their intricate choreography and mesmerizing presence! And let me tell you, the fashion, darling, was absolutely breathtaking. It felt like a fairytale come to life. Imagine dazzling, sequined jumpsuits, elegant gowns with glittering embellishments, and headpieces worthy of a drag queen monarch... truly magical!
But my biggest takeaway from this particular journey through time? The love, support, and acceptance the drag community felt in 2025. Oh, it was truly touching. I watched a local show in the UK - you know, your regular Tuesday night drag - and the audience was a complete rainbow mix of people! There was laughter, cheering, even a little bit of healthy, positive dissent (which, let's be honest, we all love!). It just showed me that drag was, for lack of a better word, truly accepted. It wasn't just tolerated, darling, it was celebrated, loved, and truly embraced. I might even dare to say it was fashionable... just like my pink tutu!
