Hello my gorgeous darlings! It's Emma, your pink tutu-clad time travelling companion, and this month I'm taking you back in time, but not in any ordinary way! We're whisking off to the heart of Parisian glamour, 2028 to be precise, and exploring the incredible world of drag during a time when it truly began to shine!
As you all know, I'm obsessed with tutus, and what could be more iconic than the Parisian can-can? So, I knew this time travel was meant to be! After all, my sparkly pink tutu knows no boundaries. This month's journey has been absolutely dazzling. It's one thing to read about the legends of the Moulin Rouge, but another entirely to step onto that very stage.
I must admit, there were moments where I almost tripped up and sent the entire dancehall spinning. That magical pink tutu, with all its shimmery tulle and glittery layers, could sometimes get a bit, shall we say, 'caught in the moment'. Let's just say the Moulin Rouge was definitely not built for pink tutus designed for time travelling, eh?
I landed, in true "Emma-style" fashion, backstage in a whirl of feathers, rhinestones, and whispered "oh là là"s. The excitement was palpable - you could literally smell the magic! Back in 2028, it was the era of the legendary Mademoiselle Rose, a true drag icon! Can you imagine, dear readers, an all-singing, all-dancing, all-sparkly spectacle with drag stars shimmering in feathered costumes, complete with sequins that practically screamed "look at me!"? It was a heady, glorious mess of theatrics, laughter, and sheer artistry!
One particular star, a glamorous queen known only as "Miss Mimi", totally stole my attention. Imagine, my dears, a vision in a hot pink corseted gown and a crown adorned with pink and silver feathers - a literal showstopper!
The Moulin Rouge, with its rich history of extravagant spectacles and larger-than-life personalities, played host to the world's greatest drag talent.
Oh, I had such fun backstage! You simply wouldn't believe the incredible makeup they used. The colours, the techniques! You'll have to take my word for it! Imagine the ultimate makeup bag with brushes that seemed to do everything themselves! You see, this era was all about taking things to the next level! There was such a powerful energy, and you could see a fierce independence growing amongst the queens.
It was inspiring, my dears, seeing these amazing performers carving their own paths in the world. They weren't just entertaining, they were breaking boundaries! They were living the dream in a world that hadn't yet been saturated with drag and its dazzling brilliance.
I know many of you will have watched this era's drag blossom on television shows, and perhaps on stage, but this wasn't simply about TV and theatres - it was about creating an entirely new world for drag to exist!
But darling, as glamorous as the Moulin Rouge was, it's simply impossible to only talk about drag performances! You see, there's so much more to it.
Remember the clothes? Oh, my dear! They were absolutely divine. And what better place to embrace high fashion than Paris! I had a delightful shopping spree at some of the world's most exquisite designers and saw costumes with layers and layers of glittering fabric that literally felt like you could get lost in them! This was an era that pushed fashion boundaries, experimented with form and colour and explored the beauty of expressing ourselves through what we wear.
And did you know the streets of Paris became showcasing ground for drag performers in 2028? You wouldn't believe the sheer creativity of the looks these amazing drag artists brought to life. They took over public spaces and, in doing so, they made the world feel more vibrant, more colorful, more joyous.
One look I absolutely loved involved this breathtakingly elegant black dress, covered from head to toe in exquisite embroidery - the attention to detail, the way it flowed - it was truly exquisite. But oh darling, the piece de resistance was the extravagant headpiece, crafted with delicate lace, sparkling with rhinestones and adorned with the most incredible feather arrangement! Imagine the drama! The grace!
And let's not forget the makeup! Oh my! Think bright, vivid colors, smokey eyes and bold lips. It was the era of the ultimate "smokey eye" – a smokey eye that literally glittered under the city lights! The lips - well they were just as dramatic - from bold, bright reds to playful pinks!
Remember, back in 2028, drag queens were pushing the boundaries of self-expression through makeup. It was a time to truly embrace all your facets and show off the beautiful diversity that makes up each and every one of us!
One thing I will say is the energy of 2028 was phenomenal, just utterly infectious, and I loved witnessing how these talented drag performers captivated audiences around the world with their sheer joy and theatrical flair!
Of course, no journey to Paris would be complete without a visit to the iconic Eiffel Tower. As the evening lights of the city shimmered, I couldn’t resist putting on my sparkly pink tutu and dancing to the city’s enchanting rhythms. It was truly a moment for the ages, and as always, I found myself right at home with all those magnificent twinkling lights, and with the sounds of music, laughter and cheers floating up to me from the city's beating heart.
This month has truly been about embracing that iconic Parisian chic. We’ve had an unforgettable glimpse into the extraordinary world of drag in 2028! Now, who wouldn't love the opportunity to shimmy around in a fabulous Parisian cabaret, all dressed in your most spectacular costume? And, darling, who wouldn’t love to have a touch of "Mademoiselle Rose’s” dazzling energy and grace in their own lives?
So, my dears, let’s be just like those incredible drag artists I met in Paris: embrace your inner star, find the courage to express yourself freely, let your creativity flow and make the world a more dazzling and inspiring place!
Until next time, don’t forget, dear readers, to find that little touch of Parisian glam in your own lives! It could be a spark of confidence, a little extra sparkle on your makeup, a bold splash of color on your wardrobe, or simply an attitude of “oui, oui!” And remember: everyone looks amazing in a pink tutu, and I encourage all of you to join me in the tutu revolution!
Much love, Emma x
