Blog Post #1325
Darlings, hello! It’s your girl Emma, back from a whirlwind tour through time! This month I've gone and done it, I've been to the future - well, not quite the future, but a day in 2030! Oh, what a delightful journey this was!
You see, as a fashion-obsessed, pink tutu-wearing drag queen, I'm always drawn to those pivotal moments in history. So, I knew I had to see where drag was in the year 2030. As usual, I whipped up my trusty, magical pink tutu, gave it a little twirl and a sprinkle of glitter dust, and before you could say "Sashay, Away!", I was there!
Now, you might be surprised to know that 2030 didn't have the outrageous outfits, the glitter explosions, and the fierce lipsynch battles I'd pictured. Instead, I was met with a calmer, more intimate world of drag. And that was actually rather lovely, my dears.
I touched down in the heart of Derbyshire - no surprises there! But, you know me, I can't resist a bit of shopping first. It seemed, 2030 had a thing for these giant stores called "Experience Centers." They had drag costumes, makeup, and hair wigs… it was an absolute joy! And it had those "try-it-on virtually" machines! A little fiddly, but quite fun for a seasoned drag queen.
After shopping, I was absolutely bursting with excitement to hit the club scene. However, it wasn't quite what I expected. The "drag shows" in 2030 felt less theatrical and more… personalized? I saw small groups of people in private homes or community centers, hosting these "drag-along nights" - get it, I crack myself up! It was like an intimate, living room party, where people could explore their identity and just have a good laugh.
Turns out, this 2030 drag was all about "self-expression," "celebration," and "connecting with your authentic self." Very wholesome, very heartwarming, and very different to the theatrical scene of my era. Of course, the glam was still there - 2030 drag queens sported the most vibrant colour palettes imaginable. The makeup was like a canvas of futuristic, hyper-realistic artistry, and the fashion? Oh my sweet darlings, those 2030 drag queens are pushing the boundaries!
While I missed the big stage shows, there was still so much to be loved in the intimate performances.
For example, I saw this drag queen, an absolute gem named "Neo Sparkle," performing a solo acoustic act in someone's garden. Neo played their own ukulele, dressed in a stunning green shimmer dress and some killer platform heels! It was so moving, seeing this drag queen pouring their heart out to a small audience under the starry sky.
In other places, drag wasn't even tied to performance. It was becoming a daily style, a way of life. Drag queens strutting their stuff in the streets of 2030 Derby. No judgement. It was more of an empowering fashion statement! Imagine: your everyday attire being a sparkly rainbow jumpsuit and a pair of oversized, iridescent platform sandals!
But it wasn't all sunshine and roses, darlings. I even experienced the "Drag Wars" of 2030! This whole big online spat - just imagine a heated argument between your auntie and your cousin, except on a grander, worldwide scale. All about "drag etiquette", about who is allowed to perform drag, and about the ethics of representation. Quite fascinating and stressful in equal measures.
Despite the arguments, drag queens of 2030 were undeniably unified by a deep passion for art, self-expression, and celebrating their unique individuality. They truly embraced drag as an extension of themselves, rather than a persona or an act.
And, of course, as a fashion-forward drag queen, I just had to witness a 2030 drag runway show! It was truly unlike anything I had seen before, with innovative 3D printed garments that morphed and shimmered on the runway. It was futuristic fashion with a touch of artistry! You wouldn’t believe the level of innovation. They could even "paint" outfits onto themselves with special holographic makeup that glowed in the dark - oh, I wish we had that back in my day.
One thing I discovered during my time travel adventure is that, despite the passing of years, drag remains a constant force of creativity and self-expression. From the private gatherings to the glittering runways, drag was truly flourishing. It's all about finding your own version of sparkle.
Now, after my dazzling adventures, my own pink tutu feels like it needs a good refresh - those futuristic styles inspired me! I’ll be sharing some of those new designs on www.pink-tutu.com, along with a little tutorial on creating holographic glitter makeup. Oh, and don’t forget my next show is coming up - I'll be giving a live demonstration of how I achieved that fabulous 2030 runway look!
As for those 2030 fashion shows, who knows what surprises the future holds? My sparkly tutu is packed and ready for another trip through time. See you on the other side, lovelies!
Stay Fabulous,
Emma x
