Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog Post #1337: 2031.05.01 - The Day the Tutu Took Over!

Hey sweeties,

It's Emma, your girl, and this month's pink-tutu-infused time travel adventures are taking us to a dazzling 2031! I'm back in my trusty time-travelling tutu, and let me tell you, darlings, this one's a real feather-boa-filled, sequined, shoulder-padded extravaganza!

You know, 2031 was a real turning point for drag, a time of immense progress and acceptance. It was the year of the big tutu takeover, literally! Can you believe it, dolls? Even the Royal Family started incorporating pink tutus into their outfits, bless their little cotton socks. It was a year of glitz, glamour, and everything fabulous.

Now, let's hop in my time-traveling tutu and head back to 2031!

London, 2031.05.01 - A Drag Queen's Paradise

Landing in a cloud of tulle and glitter, I found myself in a world transformed. Forget London buses, we're talking London DRAG buses! Every public transportation service was a rolling runway, featuring queens with feather-dusted boas and towering headdresses, bringing joy and rainbows to the city streets.

The energy in London was positively electrifying, every single corner bursting with artistic expressions. We’re talking drag performance troupes performing everything from high-energy hip hop numbers in Soho to moving, contemporary ballets on the Thames embankment! It was pure drag bliss.

I felt so inspired by all the incredible talent around. It’s honestly difficult to pick highlights from this trip, so I’ll tell you about my absolute faves.

The Queen’s Gambit: A drag troupe dedicated to bringing all the iconic drag styles of the past back into the spotlight. Imagine “The Most Fabulous Drag Queens Ever” meeting a contemporary “RuPaul’s Drag Race” vibe, but with a heavy dose of glitter and an emphasis on inclusivity. Absolutely phenomenal.

Drag Against the Machine: A phenomenal drag rock band taking London by storm! It’s drag royalty fronting the show, rocking out in amazing outfits – all tutus, sequins, and rock ‘n’ roll energy. These babes are turning the punk-rock scene on its head, and I for one am obsessed!

The Glitterati Ballet: A classical ballet company bringing a dazzling splash of drag and fantasy to the world of dance. It was breathtaking! With flamboyant tutus and stunning choreography, they effortlessly intertwined classical technique with cutting-edge modern drag style, pushing boundaries and breaking barriers in the most beautiful way.

It’s like drag is just everywhere in London now! Drag became so mainstream in 2031, it felt like a drag utopia.

The Tutu: A Symbol of Drag and Unity

The pink tutu in particular seemed to symbolize something much larger. It was a sign of inclusivity, an emblem of acceptance and unity for the drag community worldwide. It was no longer just a whimsical garment – it had become a statement, a badge of honour, worn by everyone, from everyday people on the street to fashion designers in the most exclusive boutiques.

One of my biggest goals for this blog is to get every single person in the world wearing a pink tutu at least once, so seeing how it’s been incorporated into fashion everywhere in 2031 really filled my heart with joy. Seeing people express themselves with their tutus felt like a collective celebration of drag!

It truly showed me how far we've come. Drag was no longer seen as a niche, a fringe movement, but a powerful and positive force in our society.

A Fashionista's Dream in Paris

From London, I whisked off to Paris for a taste of high fashion! Remember when a few decades back, there was the infamous “tutu wars” between the fashion houses? Oh, darlings, you would never believe it, but in 2031, those fashion houses are embracing the tutu with open arms.

From Balenciaga’s neon pink and black-feathered, geometric, body-contouring pieces, to the luxurious, handcrafted satin gowns at Dior, everyone was making their mark with bold interpretations of the tutu in their haute couture shows. It was literally divine!

And I was front-row for both, naturally, my pink time-travelling tutu sparkling brighter than any of those million-dollar gowns. I’m telling you, dolls, this is drag history!

Drag & Global Unity in New York

On to New York, a bustling hub of drag history. Oh, the iconic shows!

The famous drag houses have all turned into sprawling empires. The House of Xtravaganza even had their own theme park, where tourists could spend a day immersing themselves in drag culture – a true celebration of their rich and legendary history. It was all too much!

One highlight of the trip was meeting the iconic legend Miss Fame, who was absolutely radiant in her signature elegance. You know, she’s actually one of the main inspirations for this entire project. Miss Fame has always pushed boundaries with her love for haute couture, glamour and beauty – reminding us that fashion and drag are about making bold statements!

This year, the Drag Queen Time Travel project has a goal: we aim to encourage and fund the development of Drag Performance Theatres worldwide. My own journey with time travel is being paid for with donations from the fabulous drag shows I perform in – every single one helps. And it was truly a privilege to see such a large project being put into practice!

I saw so many incredible new venues around the world, with queens of all stripes, ages, races, and ethnicities. It really felt like a global community, and it's truly exciting to know that drag will be available for more people in future!

And That's a Wrap!

Well, dolls, another time travel adventure comes to an end. As I zip back to my humble Derbyshire digs in my magical pink tutu, my heart is filled with such warmth and pride for our global drag community.

As we travel through history and experience the evolution of drag, it reminds us of the power of self-expression and how vital drag truly is in helping to dismantle societal barriers, celebrate individuality, and embrace the beautiful and diverse spectrum of human expression.

Stay tuned for the next time-traveling adventure, dolls! You'll definitely want to join me next month. We're gonna travel to a time where even your grandpa is rocking a pink tutu – I can’t wait to show you how it all went down!

Catch ya' on the flip side!

Emma
