Hiya darlings! Emma here, back from another fabulously flamboyant jaunt through the annals of drag history, and this time, I’m positively tickled pink (and by that, I mean utterly delighted, darlings!) because this month, we’re stepping into the future – August 2033, to be exact! Buckle up your fabulousness, grab a glass of something fizzy and let’s journey into the glittering unknown.
But before we even think about blasting off in my magical, time-travelling pink tutu, let's talk fashion, shall we? August 2033. That's futuristic enough for you? Well, honey, hold onto your sequins! 2033 is all about sustainable sparkle. Think eco-friendly materials like recycled sequins, repurposed fabrics, and upcycled drag costumes! Can you imagine? We're keeping the planet glamorous while rocking our high-heeled hearts out. This is a dramazing combination, I tell you!
And speaking of future fashion, this is a perfect opportunity to channel the ballet elegance of the Tutus of Tomorrow. It’s going to be all about feather boas so long they trail behind us like ballet tutus and sparkly gowns so sheer you’ll barely be able to tell we're not naked under all the glitz! Oh darling, the possibilities are endless!
Right, now I've got my tutu on (the pinkest pink you've ever seen!), it's time for my magical tutu-time machine to teleport us forward! Oh, I've missed the future! Sniffles.
2033: A World in Full Drag Bloom
It's August, which means festival season! The streets are awash with vibrant colours, the air filled with the joyous sounds of music and laughter, and most importantly – every corner you turn, there's a new drag show waiting to take your breath away! It's the height of the drag festival circuit – and guess who’s at the heart of it all? You got it, darling! It’s The Glamvitational - a huge worldwide drag festival held across all continents!
Global Drag Domination: Drag has finally made its big, beautiful mark on the world. I'm talking mainstream acceptance, honey! From Tokyo to New York, every major city has a bustling drag scene, filled with a vibrant array of queens from every background. You name it: bearded queens, cyber-punk queens, glamorous cabaret queens, sassy comedy queens - they're all here! And they're all taking over the world, one glittery feather at a time! I'm so happy my favourite Derbyshire drag queens, "The Diamond Divas", are performing at one of the Glamvitational venues this month, it's been their dream!
It's also been a long time dream of mine to see "The House of Balmain" showcase at the annual "Queen of the Year" competition. It's basically the drag version of the Oscars, but with more sparkle! And you bet your bottom dollar they are serving looks – everything from shimmering suits to avant-garde gowns - it's enough to send a fashionista's heart into orbit.
Drag History in the Making: Even more fantastic, they’ve finally launched a “Drag Time Travel Experience” here in 2033. Just imagine, you get to travel through time with a team of Drag Historians, going back through history, immersing yourself in the origins of drag, from its early days in ancient Egypt right up to modern times. Honey, it's pure drag history bliss. And guess what else? It's all about spreading awareness of the beauty and the power of drag in history. This is serious girl power, and you can bet your wig it's going to be inspiring future generations to keep the art of drag alive and thriving for decades to come!
And did you know the "The Drag Library of the World" launched last year? That's right, darling, there is an entire library devoted to preserving drag history, and its right here in New York! There's everything from old performance footage to iconic outfits, and even vintage copies of the early "Drag Queen Monthly" magazine. Now that's drag history preservation at its finest!
But darling, let’s get back to 2033 – there’s a whole lot more happening here, and this is just the beginning! It's all happening: Drag theatre shows, underground clubs where drag becomes an art form all its own, with stunning visual effects, mind-blowing costumes, and theatrical performances that push the boundaries of drag beyond anything we’ve seen before!
And honey, drag isn't just happening on stage – it’s exploded into fashion! Designers across the globe are embracing the art of drag in their work.
Imagine wearing a Drag Designer-inspired outfit for an evening out! These designers incorporate dazzling makeup, dramatic hair, and vibrant colours to create pieces that truly capture the essence of drag!
But, before I start planning my 2033 drag fashion capsule wardrobe, I have a feeling I'm missing something. That's it! It's the drag influencer scene. Oh honey, let's talk TikTok, Instagram and everything in between. It’s a total explosion of drag in the digital realm! You’ve got makeup tutorials, funny drag queen sketches, drag transformation videos, and the entire universe of drag queen advice out there on the Internet!
And this, darlings, is how the next generation of queens is finding their voice. It’s all happening in the social media space and it's phenomenal! Drag, honey, it's everywhere! From the big city streets to the smaller towns, from stage productions to TikTok and Instagram feeds – drag is spreading joy and inclusivity like confetti in the wind!
But enough about the future - I've gotta jet. It's time to get ready for my next big show! My fans will be disappointed if I don’t make it on time.
How to Embrace 2033 Drag Today:
Okay, now you've had your full dose of future drag - you want a bit of "how-to"? I love sharing my experiences and advice, so let's make this blog a truly interactive journey.
- Eco-Conscious Sparkles: Don't fret over sustainable sparkle, darlings! Upcycling is the name of the game. You can find amazing fabrics and sequins at thrift stores. Let’s put all our used garments to good use! A little creativity, a lot of glue, and you've got yourself a sustainable drag costume for the ages!
- Feather-licious Feathers: Feather boas – a must for every future queen! And for those of us on a budget, we can look to feather trimmings! Or try fabric scraps, or colorful ribbon for a new take on the feather look. It’s a game of color and textures – use your creativity!
- Shine in Sustainable Fashion: Let’s support our environmentally conscious designers! You’ll find some fantastic new designers working with eco-friendly materials and creating bold and dazzling styles. They deserve our support.
Now go on, strut your stuff, embrace the joy of drag, and show the world the dazzling power of your inner queen. Until next time darlings!
Love, Emma
