Helloooo darlings! Your girl Emma here, back from another wild ride through the magical time-travelling tutu and landing smack dab in the middle of December 2036! It’s so good to be back! What a month, what a year, what a…oh dear! Did I just have a dizzy spell? Did I have too many cocktails before my time jump? Anyway! As I was saying, this month is all about reflecting on a very, very special date in drag history: 12th of December 2036. Buckle your glitter-covered belts, honey, because we're taking a trip down memory lane.
As always, before we launch into the juicy details of our time-travelling adventures, I simply must share my current fave looks: You're just going to LOVE this outfit I whipped up for my latest gig at The Queen Bee Club in Derby. I call it "Tulle Trouble." It's a hot pink tutu (natch!) with layers and layers of shimmery tulle, but this time I went for a modern, edgy vibe. I'm pairing it with oversized feathered wings, a customised corset and a set of wickedly long, glittery lashes. Let's just say, the crowds are going absolutely wild for this one! It’s my absolute must-have this month.
Now, back to the time travel business! Remember that big Drag Ball I was telling you about last month? You know, the one happening in a futuristic Tokyo, year 2050? It seems it was all the buzz this month back in 2036. This, my loves, is the BIG day - the one everyone is talking about! A global phenomenon! It wasn't just your typical drag ball, it was a grand extravaganza. Hundreds of queens from all around the globe travelled to Japan. There was a parade, a gala, and an incredible set of drag battles that went down to the wire! Can you believe it? I must go back in time for that one! Imagine Tulle Trouble with those Japanese city lights - fabulously chic!
Talking about global happenings! What was even bigger than the Drag Ball was the drag scene in Africa! Seriously! Back in 2036, African queens are taking the stage with fierce energy and unparalleled creativity. From Nigeria to South Africa, they were revolutionising the landscape of drag! It’s inspiring stuff. What they’re doing is showing the world that drag knows no borders. That it’s a force to be reckoned with and that you don’t have to fit into one look, one stereotype - be authentically YOU! The best thing? All the queens were wearing gorgeous custom-made pink tutus! Of course, I had to slink into the back of a little performance space in Nairobi. My pink tutu absolutely blended in amongst the other fabulous fashion! There were so many colourful outfits, sparkling fabrics, it was a whole lot of beautiful, inspiring magic.
This was actually one of the first instances I'd seen, from all my time travelling, where everyone had a chance to share their talents and passions at these drag events. They were a big part of the social fabric of those countries, everyone involved – even people from outside the drag scene - just fell in love with the diversity, creativity and artistry on display. So it’s definitely good times! Now I must get ready for my performance this evening! You’re all invited!
Speaking of fabulous! Do you want to hear a story? This whole time travel thing? It has made me into quite a little explorer. While I was popping* across the globe back in 2036 I decided to venture into the realms of haute couture fashion in London, 2036! Did you know, London is overflowing with fabulous fashion designers pushing boundaries? Some even say they’re all influenced by my little pink tutu from time travel? But that’s just gossip! However, one place you have to visit is Harrods’ *special Drag Department. It was like a magical wonderland of *couture creations and elaborate makeup products! And guess what? Tutus were in demand everywhere - a real sign of how the fashion industry was embracing a diverse and fabulous look for everyone.
If you fancy trying on some gorgeous gowns, feathers and of course, some sassy tutus - you simply have to check out the newest fashion exhibition ‘Dress Up - Drag Fashion' in London’s National Gallery. The exhibit explores the intersection between fashion and drag, and displays some amazing creations from historical and contemporary drag artists.
Oh, how I long for another quick pop in my pink tutu! Who knows what amazing wonders await me? But I must finish now! I'm off to start my glam routine! Stay tuned for the next exciting blog, and don’t forget to share your tutu fashion photos!
Yours in pink and tulle, Emma xx
