Pink Tutu Travels: Post #1486 - A Whirl Through Drag-tastic 2043!

Hello, darlings! It's your girl, Emma, and let me tell you, my darling, my time traveling pink tutu has whisked me right into a drag-tastic time trip that’s had me positively swooning. I'm back in 2043, a glorious era for our fabulous drag community, and, honey, I'm buzzing with excitement to share every last detail with you!

The moment I popped into this sparkly new world, I found myself surrounded by drag queens unlike anything I’d seen before! You’ve heard of gender-fluid before? This wasn’t just gender-fluid; it was the fluidity of drag itself! They’re switching up their style so fast it makes my head spin! Think rainbow glitter, high-tech fashion that would have Diana Ross in awe, and an absolute embrace of all things creative. It’s positively inspirational, darling!

Firstly, I gotta give you a peek into the biggest drag events on the calendar for this date. Honey, things are sizzling! The legendary ā€œDrag Me Through Historyā€ tour is rocking the globe, celebrating queer icons across millennia, with each show featuring different era-inspired performances, complete with fabulous costuming! You know, I saw an amazing rendition of Shakespearean drag using actual 17th century costume, absolutely darling. You can imagine the drama.

Speaking of Shakespeare, honey, there’s a whole new generation of drag poets taking center stage. And their verses? So damn poetic, and funny!* I watched a queen, dressed in this gorgeous, minimalist black ensemble, spit out lines about love, loss, and, yes, glitter in a style that felt like modern spoken-word meets old school poetry slam! It’s like they found a way to channel the fire of Shakespeare himself through the filter of drag. Truly incredible.

Another event that’s absolutely buzzing this year? The World Drag Olympics, honey! Yes, darling! It's true! From "Glitter Gymnastics" to ā€œStrut and Style Runway,ā€ to even a whole category called "Musicality with a Twirlā€, these queens are showing off their talents like never before. It's truly a celebration of drag's power to entertain and bring joy to the world.

Now, I'm not just gushing about performances, honey. I've been absolutely captivated by the incredible drag fashion trends of 2043. Imagine holographic prints and futuristic materials, like bio-luminescent fabrics that change color in the dark! My absolute favourite find? A drag king using sustainable fashion, crafting incredible looks from recycled materials! I’m talking upcycled gowns with repurposed tech gadgets integrated into the designs, with a whole statement around ethical fashion and environmental consciousness. Oh darling, they are so smart, stylish, and environmentally conscious, I had to applaud for a solid 30 seconds straight. They told me, ā€œDrag is for everyone, even our mother earthā€. Honey, if that’s not the spirit of drag, I don’t know what is!

The diversity of the drag community here has completely knocked my pink socks off, and I mean, KNOCKED THEM OFF. I've met queens from all backgrounds and nationalities, showcasing everything from traditional dance forms to punk-rock inspired drag that, my dear, really shook the foundations of the stage.

Let’s talk drag scene hotspots. There's this one club, called ā€œThe Rainbow Cloud,ā€ and darling, let me tell you. They serve their drinks in glitter-infused cloud-shaped cups! You wouldn’t believe the amount of glitter in the place, it's a positively heavenly sight. The place pulsates with excitement and you can tell it’s a gathering point for drag performers and audiences alike. It’s the ultimate drag melting pot! I even had a go at some amazing rainbow cocktails that had a little spark to them, let's just say I had my sparkle on all day, my dear! I felt I really belonged there.

Now, what's a pink-tutu-loving gal to do in a world so dazzling? Join the fun, darling! I've been on the lookout for anything pink and tutued, naturally. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon the ā€œPink Tutu Parlour.ā€ Honey, this isn’t your average drag bar! They hold regular tutu-making workshops, where the whole point is to express your unique sense of style and then take your creations on the runway in their pink tutu cabaret night.

I am actually now standing here, back in 2023, and I can feel myself pulling my sewing machine out because darling, you'll never guess, but there was a PINK TUTU WORKSHOP AT THE RAINBOW CLOUD IN LONDON! It's happening at the end of the month and it's all I can think about, I just have to do it!

The absolute pinnacle of my time travelling journey in 2043? I took part in the annual ā€œPink Tutu Parade,ā€ darling, an event where thousands of people from all walks of life, dress up in their absolute finest pink tutus for a day of joy, music, and fabulousity. We danced, we sang, we strutted, and we spread pure, unadulterated pink tutu joy throughout the entire city! You know, being here today, back in my own world, the parade is like an imprint on my heart. I want every single one of you to know about it! I can just picture my favourite queens at it, I’ve started planning for next year.

Now, while we're on the subject of our lovely tutu family, honey, here are a few extra things I learnt on my travels, because that's how we love at Pink Tutu!

Firstly, 2043 sees a rise in drag education programs, teaching everything from makeup artistry to business management to, get this, drag history. It’s been amazing seeing the young queens learn and grow.

Second, 2043 has seen the burgeoning of queer-owned drag businesses - everything from makeup lines to clothing designers. And let me tell you, it's positively inspiring! This shows our community is stepping up and carving out their own spaces, their own legacies. It's the very spirit of drag in its most magnificent form.

And third? I just love seeing the collaborations happening between drag artists and other creatives, musicians, visual artists. It feels as though drag is at the very center of creative conversation, pushing boundaries and fostering artistic innovation.

Darling, I’m getting myself ready to share this experience at the annual Drag Awards ceremony where, this year, I'm going to put on a one-woman drag performance to pay homage to drag history! The theme this year? It's "Pink, Powerful, and Perfectly Pink." Get it? Because, honey, I just have to incorporate as much pink into the show as possible. My amazing time travelling pink tutu is definitely being added to the design!

That, my lovelies, is my story. What a glorious, colourful journey it has been! I can’t wait to share even more with you in next month's blog post, where, spoiler alert, I’ll be revealing a truly dazzling drag adventure you won't believe! In the meantime, go out, glitter up, and embrace the joy of drag, you beautiful souls!

Lots of love and glitter,

Emma xx
