Hello darlings! Itās your favourite Derbyshire lass, Emma, back with another thrilling adventure from the annals of Drag Queen Time Travel! This month, we're hurtling back to August 2045 ā a future brimming with sequins and a delightful splash of glitter. As usual, I'm slipping into my magic pink tutu, which is positively shimmering with anticipation!
Oh, you're wondering how this little ol' pink tutu does it? Well, it's the family heirloom ā passed down from my grand-tutu, it seems this particular tutu has some quite exceptional properties. With a little pinch, a dash of pixie dust (courtesy of my local apothecary, of course) and a good shimmy, it whisks me off to any point in history. Honestly, itās like a trip to the local Primark, but a LOT more dazzling!
This month, the tutu delivered me to an absolutely spectacular event ā a world-renowned Drag Festival. Imagine this, dolls: a vibrant global extravaganza showcasing the very best of Drag from all across the world! It was held in the breathtaking, art deco-meets-modern, Drag Palace of Berlin. A glittering symphony of beauty, talented queens, and boundless energy, all housed in this dazzling palace! And guess what? My magic tutu even nabbed me a VIP pass - who knew?
Now, to tell you all about this captivating event, I need to make sure my lipstick isnāt smudged... ah, right back to you!
The Drag Palace pulsed with excitement, every corner showcasing drag art in a myriad of its fabulous forms! On one side, the "Tutu Terrace" hosted a ballet-inspired Drag competition. These gorgeous performers showcased graceful routines ā everything from pirouettes and pliĆ©s to stunning lyrical storytelling ā all while shimmering in spectacular custom-made tutus! You just know this one is getting copied. You can find this competition on Netflix!
Across the palace in the āDivine Dining Hallā, you could feast on a delicious selection of lip-smacking, gourmet food all lovingly prepared and served by the queens themselves, each outfit more spectacular than the last. My highlight? An intricately-beaded and feather-trimmed oyster shooter. Talk about elegance! This is how you dine. This is drag queen dining. It was definitely something to behold. And delicious, as well!
Of course, no festival is complete without a stellar Drag Show! The Palace was teeming with amazing, innovative Drag! I saw drag queens from every corner of the globe - from the fierce and fiery South African Drag Queen collective, āThe Lionessesā, to the Japanese-inspired, ethereal beauty, "Starry Nights," they all delivered high-impact, show-stopping performances! My absolute highlight, however, was āGlitter Galore!ā It was like an out of this world extravaganza. Think glitter, dazzling lasers and mind-blowing visual effects, all mixed with jaw-dropping talent. Think Cher in an alien princess movie - you get the gist. Absolutely stunning, dazzling and truly one of the most amazing Drag performances I've ever witnessed! My glitter fix? Yes please!
Now, the magic of this festival? It was an incredibly inclusive, inspiring, and joyous celebration of drag culture! This festival embraced everyone - from the newest queens with dreams in their eyes, to veterans with stories to tell! It was truly an atmosphere of pure love, respect, and artistic passion. This festival is on every month in a different city around the world, if you canāt get a ticket to the āPalace,ā find a show near you and go get a little drag in your life. You can find where itās going to be in the "World Drag Guide!"
You know me, dolls, I canāt resist a shopping trip. And guess what? The Palaceās main courtyard was a fashionistasā paradise. There was a collection of Drag vendors from across the globe, each offering their own signature creations - from exquisite wigs and eyelashes, to showstopping outfits, to absolutely fabulous drag makeup ā the court was just a visual feast for the eyes! Youāll love it. If I hadnāt been wearing my pink tutu I would have bought the whole lot!
My magic pink tutu certainly delivered, transporting me through time and back to the comfort of my humble abode! I am, however, so inspired! You guys have to go see these performances, you have to go shopping at the Drag vendors and most importantly get involved in this community. Itās truly a powerful thing, seeing drag change and evolve all the time, yet staying strong and diverse in a truly exciting time for drag history.
Let's remember, darlings, drag isn't just about the make-up or the costumes - itās about self-expression, empowerment, and celebrating the uniqueness in each of us! Go find your tribe, whether itās a Drag Show, your local drag club, or online community - be bold, be bright, and have a fabulous time! Go grab yourself a tutu. You can find some fantastic pink ones on www.pink-tutu.com
Till next time, stay fabulous!
Love, Emma x
