Fast-forward to 2046

Landing in the sparkly-future of February 2046 is like stepping into a drag queen's dream. The energy is electric, the fashion is fiercer than a Kylie Minogue album cover, and the air itself vibrates with the joyous pulse of drag! But the most mind-blowing thing I discovered?

Drag is completely mainstream! đŸ€©

Everywhere you go, people are dressed up, making statements, embracing individuality. I saw drag kings on the Tube, drag queens performing at the Tate Modern, and even drag aliens hosting intergalactic karaoke on Mars (honestly, who needs space travel if you’ve got a good wig?).

It felt incredible to witness how far we’ve come – from secret speakeasy drag shows in the 20th century to everyone living their most fabulous, drag-inspired selves.

Time Travelling Through a Glittery World

As always, I spent February 2046 like a giddy, glittery hummingbird, buzzing around every drag event I could find. First, I had to visit the "Dragtastic Awards" - basically, the drag queen version of the Oscars. Imagine all the iconic looks of red carpet fashion, except every single person was dripping in sequins and feathers! You can bet your bottom dollar that I managed to snag myself an invitation and squeezed right into the thick of things. It was all glitz, glam, and enough glitter to power a disco ball. Oh, and a drag king from Birmingham walked away with the “Most Inspirational Drag Icon” award. (So proud!)

But the awards weren’t the only event in town. It seems that the future has fallen deeply in love with live drag, even creating their own dedicated “Drag & Dine” nights where everyone is encouraged to get dressed up in fabulous ensembles and indulge in mouthwatering dishes prepared by a world famous drag chef. It's basically the dream scenario, right?

After experiencing the joy of "Drag & Dine" at the London Eye’s fancy new Diner on the Cloud venue, I spent the rest of my trip taking in every possible form of drag imaginable – from a drag ballet at the Royal Opera House to a Drag-a-thon charity fundraiser in Trafalgar Square where everyone seemed to be competing for the “Most Elaborate Sequined Leotard” award.

I also had the incredible opportunity to be in the audience of the World's Largest Drag Show, a virtual extravaganza held in the Metaverse and simultaneously broadcast live on TV screens across the globe. It was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing performers from every continent, and reaching audiences numbering in the billions. Imagine the thrill of seeing drag queens and kings from all over the world, singing and dancing their hearts out!

The diversity of the show really solidified just how much drag has evolved.

Fashion That Will Have You Dying to Dye

No trip to 2046 would be complete without a bit of shopping spree, would it? I practically did a back-flip when I saw the entire high street was filled with clothing and makeup inspired by drag! I snagged myself a pair of custom-designed thigh-high boots that were studded with 2,000 Swarovski crystals, (just like your auntie always wanted!), a silver space-age body suit (with built in feather fans! ), and enough glittery lipstick to keep me fabulous for years!

And let's not forget the iconic drag wigs. Think everything from flowing rainbow wigs, sculpted neon curls, and shimmering silver hair that would make even Cher jealous! And yes, I found myself one absolutely perfect wig too – an oversized lilac cloud creation. What can I say? I’m a girl of taste and I want it all!

It’s no wonder I had to add on extra time to my visit just so I could pack it all up and send it back to Derbyshire.

Drag is About More than Just Looks

This trip made me realize just how far drag has come, and just how powerful it's become. It’s not just about fabulous looks and amazing performances; it's about finding your voice, expressing yourself, and challenging expectations.

Drag reminds us to be brave, be bold, and never, ever be afraid to stand out!

That’s why I think the biggest takeaway from 2046 is that drag is for everyone. It doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are, or what your gender expression is, you can find your own unique space in the drag community and be embraced for who you truly are.

But remember darlings, I wouldn't be doing this journey with you if it wasn’t all about a certain shade of pink.

Yes! Drag might be for everyone, but I still think that the world needs a little more pink and a whole lot of tutus!

Stay fierce, my darlings.

XOXO Emma
