Hello darlings! It’s your fabulous pink-loving blogger Emma here, back with another exciting instalment of my monthly adventures through time, all thanks to the magic of my very own time travelling pink tutu.
This month, dear readers, I’m going to be diving head-first into the exciting world of drag in the year 2048. Can you believe it? I know I’m still a bit in shock! And you know, my fabulous tutu knows no bounds, it whisks me across continents, from the roaring twenties of Harlem to the neon nights of Tokyo. It even gets me a fab seat at all the best Drag Ball’s… sometimes even in the front row!

As I sashayed through the neon streets of London, I couldn’t help but notice the sheer brilliance of it all, you know, what I call future drag… or is it futuristic drag?
I decided to use my trusty time-traveling tutu to zoom me straight to the 1st of January 2048 to find out. Let’s just say this: darling it is everything I dreamed it would be.
Think bright lights, glitter, glam, and an incredible mix of drag performers and drag performers that looked nothing like I expected but that were so amazing, they were completely blowing my mind! It was the most fabulous night.
My Tutu and I did some incredible drag watching… but that's not all we did in the wonderful world of 2048. It’s an absolute whirlwind. I managed to squeeze in an impromptu drag makeup tutorial, saw some incredible drag shows on both street stages and theatrical stages, even had the chance to go shopping in some of the most fabulous vintage shops in London! I mean, seriously, let’s talk about some of that incredible streetwear and club wear, darling, simply spectacular! I snagged myself a gorgeous 1960's pink sequined jumpsuit which I have completely reimagined for the 2048 world of drag, trust me, it is spectacular. You can find some pictures of it on my Instagram, www.instagram.com/pinktututime_travels, it’s all very hush hush darling, because as you know, the best looks need to be seen on a drag queen stage, not on the streets... although darling, that sequin jumpsuit will look incredible with my bright pink ballet tutu. It's the very essence of 'pink tutu meets future drag.'
Honestly, it's amazing, you just have to see it to believe it, and of course you are all most welcome to see it at my drag show in Nottingham, next Tuesday 8th, you know I’ll be performing a whole routine around this fabulous ensemble! My tutu travels have been so inspiring…and, in true Emma fashion, it will be the pinkest drag performance you have ever seen, you won't need your phone's flashlight to find your seat... unless it’s a blackout.
Anyway, back to the 1st of January 2048
That is when I met Mavis, you see, drag has changed so much and as much as it looks amazing and futuristic, it felt so familiar. I think Mavis’ stage name is 'Mischief Mavis' and, wow, darling, you haven’t lived until you’ve seen Mavis sashay on stage. It’s incredible! I’ll just add it here; she has an amazing pink, sparkly and sparkly cape. You can follow her on her Drag Queen Social Media. Her handle is Mischief_Mavis, go on darling, you'll be glad you did. Mavis said I looked "fierce, darlin"’ but more about that later... anyway, as Mavis told me later, as long as it's drag, you can be whomever you want to be… and you should! It's something all of us should think about and I'll tell you this... after watching Mavis' show, I was so empowered.
This incredible new world of 2048, had so many incredible drag shows. All of the ones that I saw on the street were filled with this amazing sense of inclusivity and community… honestly, you had to see it to believe it. Mavis showed me a fantastic cabaret club and I went wild for all of the shows, darling. I was absolutely mesmerized. We all got up and did a little impromptu dancing. It was honestly so brilliant and inspiring!
Later that day, I got to chat with some of the drag performers. Everyone was so fabulous and really up to date with Drag Queen History… Mavis asked if I'd heard of Dolly Parton? Now Dolly Parton was long before my time… I do like to pretend it was all about me, darling…but not Dolly Parton, even I'm not THAT clever. I thought the name was familiar. The others thought that was great, they love that people are so involved in drag's long and incredible history! Mavis was wearing one of Dolly Parton’s outfits...I don’t know how she managed to get her hands on that darling, maybe it was from another time traveler or a magical vintage shop… or Dolly Parton gave it to her! The outfit had that incredible Dolly Parton flair about it... just one tiny bit less sparkly. You have to give the fabulous Dolly Parton some major kudos for all of her fabulous outfits, even in the future, people love them and her glam look. She's definitely still a huge inspiration in the future, a complete icon. And if Mavis knew who Dolly Parton was, then you know it was a fab night for Drag Queen History, and it also meant the night would be extra special, as there was so much history to unpack and I, like the little drag history queen I am…was so excited about the fabulous 2048! It just makes you think, drag has never stopped, has never stopped innovating.
I can't stop telling you all how fabulously inspiring all these amazing Drag Queens and Drag Kings were… but I need to bring this fab journey to a close. Oh and it gets better...Mavis is coming to Derbyshire in the new year...she wants to do a gig at the fabulous Drag Queen pub in Derbyshire, 'The Twisted Heels', she said it's got the best vibes and she really wants to visit. I think the pub will have a huge crowd, everyone wants to meet Mischief Mavis. It's very exciting, the people of Derbyshire really know how to do a show and Mavis is sure to be a huge hit! Maybe it will be the biggest hit they have seen since my last Pink Tutu Drag Spectacular! It's all just too good to be true… or is it?
Anyway darling, that’s all for today! I have so many plans for next month. Maybe I'll be heading to The Bahamas to find out more about Drag history there, they're said to have some truly phenomenal performers.
Don’t forget to check out my upcoming Drag performance next Tuesday at the fabulous Nottingham Arts Centre. You don’t want to miss this incredible show… oh and be sure to watch this space for a fabulous interview with the one and only 'Mischief Mavis’ in next month’s blog! And remember, never let anyone stop you from achieving your dream of being your true, authentic self. Stay fabulous and pinktastic!
