Hello my gorgeous darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire drag queen, Emma, here, bringing you another delightful trip through the archives of our fabulously fabulous history! Grab your popcorn, honey, 'cause this one's gonna be a real treat!
Now, my trusty pink tutu has whisked me away to a gloriously glittering day โ November 2049! This is the time where fashion is seriously fierce, drag has gone completely bonkers, and my, oh my, the colour pink is absolutely everywhere! Can you imagine, a whole world bathed in the luminous glow of my favourite colour? Truly, dreams do come true!
Imagine me strutting down the streets of, say, Tokyo, feeling like a princess in a fairy tale, with every building adorned in candy pink! From the iconic Shibuya crossing to the vibrant street food stalls, pink is the unifying colour โ itโs truly a sight to behold!
As I mentioned earlier, this future of drag is wild. Think robots, holograms, interactive performance spaces โ the boundaries have literally dissolved, my lovelies!
I caught a drag show in Berlin that absolutely blew my wig off! It involved lasers, virtual reality, and a drag queen dressed as a sentient, gender-bending cupcake! This was drag in its purest form โ a wild, fearless celebration of creativity, self-expression, and let's face it, some darn good humour.
But don't think that traditional drag has been forgotten, oh no! Drag balls are still happening all over the globe, with a dazzling fusion of past and present! Just imagine โ a ball featuring the legendary style of the House of Xtravaganza, mixed with a sprinkle of cyberpunk futurism! I saw the most stunning ball in Miami where a whole runway was designed with shimmering holographic butterflies and the music had so many layers, honey! It was incredible.
As much as I adore the futuristic, experimental side of drag, itโs the history that keeps me coming back for more! In a world as dazzling and forward-thinking as 2049, we mustnโt forget the roots of our amazing community!
Just this week, a museum opened in London celebrating the drag legacy of the 70s and 80s, featuring iconic looks and powerful statements by pioneers like Divine and RuPaul!
Imagine that โ a tribute to the trailblazers who paved the way for us to wear whatever we want, dance however we please, and live as our truest selves!
Oh, and I can't forget about the fashion! 2049, dear dears, is a time where everyone wears pink. Seriously, everyone! I saw these incredible rainbow holographic tulle dresses in Paris that literally shimmered in the moonlight. And of course, everyone is still sporting those glorious, glorious tutus. It was literally a sea of pink as far as the eye could see.
Speaking of tutus, did I mention mine? This new tutu I got is magical, I swear! My new sparkly sequined, multi-layered tutu lets me travel through time. So I guess that's where Iโll be heading next - who knows where Iโll be whisked off to next?! Until then, keep those spirits high, and wear that pink tutu with pride!
Until next month, my sweeties!
With all the love and glitter,
Emma
