Hello lovelies! Emma here, ready to spill the tea on another fabulously fabulous journey through the time vortex, courtesy of my magical pink tutu! It’s 1st of June, 2050 – are you sitting comfortably? Because we’re taking a trip back to…well, technically a trip forward.
Let’s rewind the clock to only thirty years ago. Remember the roaring twenties…of this century?! Cackles in delight Oh, what a time to be alive! In this glamorous time warp, I saw some of the most mind-boggling advancements in…well, everything, darling! Robots serving cocktails? Totally a thing! Laser-powered glitter cannons at drag shows? You bet your bottom dollar! I almost forgot to wear my holographic-tutu-with-built-in-microphone but…goodness me, those 2020s fashion sense, how could I?
Honestly, 2050 doesn't seem that much different from my own time! There was such a joy in the air then. I love that time in drag history, everything felt more real. More… genuine, like everything was still in the midst of a glorious discovery phase, before all those weird…influencer fads took over everything – shudders. I mean, have you seen what some drag queens are wearing these days? The audacity! There is definitely something to be said for classic beauty!
Fashion & More!
My favorite find? Drag fashion in 2020s seemed so free-spirited! It wasn't about perfectly fitted, expensive, high-end designers – though they were certainly there if you wanted that – but more about a creative, free-flowing sense of style! You can't go wrong with some fabulous, eye-catching drag makeup, an oversized feather boa, and a seriously sparkly wig, darling! Plus, no one can say no to a show-stopping tutu - no matter the time. Oh, and can we talk about that glorious 2020s trend of customising everything with rhinestones and glitter? Honestly, the glittery glow of it all, I was utterly mesmerized.
And let’s talk about streetwear, the epitome of bold and rebellious style, still making waves all these years later. It seemed so daring back then, the fusion of streetwear elements into the art of drag. The mix of streetwear staples like hoodies and sweatpants alongside ultra-femme dresses and platforms was pure genius! Those were days for creating truly unique style. It really was a beautiful expression of individuality.
The Shows Must Go On
Of course, I had to catch a drag show, it would have been a crime not to! Let me tell you, darling, the talent in 2020 was out of this world! Every drag queen brought something completely different to the table, each performance a unique tapestry of creativity and daring, but what struck me most, was the rawness. This wasn't just glitter, it was genuine artistic passion, genuine performance art, raw and honest – the true definition of art.
From the big theatre shows – a true spectacle, always filled with awe and dazzling theatricality - to the dive bars with their tight-knit and unpredictable audiences, I found such variety and genuine joy for drag performance that still thrills me. Back then, people didn't even think twice about paying £15 to watch a local queen lip-sync to "Bohemian Rhapsody" with her signature high-kicking routine - the power and excitement! I don't even know what queen I saw - all I know is she ended her performance on a literal pile of crushed glitter - a true drag icon, if ever I saw one.
Oh, and the makeup! Oh honey, the artistry and bold, creative flair? Drag makeup had really become a true art form – all the glitter and colour just exploded across the stage! There was an undeniable intensity in the beauty of every queen that drew you in, a sparkle in the way they used color. Mesmerizing, truly mesmerizing! Just pure, vibrant life bursting out of each and every stroke of glitter and paint - simply exquisite!
Pink Tutu Adventures: The Future’s Not So Scary After All!
I must admit, before arriving in the future, I was slightly scared. Would it be like the films – a desolate dystopia filled with chrome and gloom? Would it be even more terrifying than the fashion of the late 20th Century? Honestly? Not even close! Cackles in amusement. Even back in the 2020s, everyone knew how to dress, how to party – especially in the world of drag. The glitter still stayed in place even with that much alcohol - truly a magic, magical time.
For once, I feel like we have something positive and fabulous to look forward to – well, that is unless you don’t want the pink-tutu-revolution of 2050! If that’s the case, I’m not sure I can handle the sadness.
Let's Talk About The Future...Or Is It The Present?
Alright, so I've been living very happily in 2050 for a few weeks, darling! Honestly, I haven't gotten tired of the glitter, I haven't even gotten bored of the dazzling shows – I mean, this place is packed with them!
A massive drag event just started here – a drag battle royal at a multi-dimensional stage set to explore different styles throughout history, a truly spectacular, larger-than-life show. Each act dives deep into the rich, glittering history of drag fashion, but it’s all wrapped in a big modern-day glitter bomb with a unique twist for every act – honestly, I've never seen anything like it, ever!
They’re starting with vintage classic style of 1980s… with a 2020s techno twist - seriously, a show of its own! It seems like 2050 drag doesn't really look so different, but everything's just… amplified. Think a modern blend of a 2020s cyberpunk, grunge and a modern-vintage flair…it’s truly dazzling and breathtaking – a whirlwind of fabulous energy!
I am off now to prepare for my own performance - how else do you get those glittery tutus and amazing shoes, right?! Until next time lovelies!
Stay fabulous,
Emma
