Pink Tutu Travels: #DragQueenHistory 2050 - A World of Glitz and Glamour, Babes!

Post Number: 1564

It’s Emma here, your pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling queen! Welcome to Pink-Tutu.com, my monthly missive from the glittery, fabulous corners of #DragQueenHistory! This month, darlings, we’re whipping out the sequined leotards and putting on our very best pink tutus because we’re waltzing our way into April 2050. Oh, what a year! What a decade! What a century!

This month I was twirling around in my magic pink tutu, landed right in the middle of a showstopper of a Drag Expo in Dubai. Honestly, babes, Dubai is looking incredible these days. This Expo was absolutely unreal - I mean, drag is everywhere! Drag queens, kings, and everything in between were showcasing their talents, from lip-syncing, and singing to fire-dancing and magic tricks, all while sporting some of the most extraordinary looks. The glitz, the glamour, the camp - it was absolutely divine!

You know how much I love a good themed party, and Dubai wasn't shy about that! The Expo had everything - a "Drag Through the Decades" night, a “Drag Legends of Bollywood” tribute, even a whole “Drag Royalty” theme with drag kings and queens from different royal families around the globe. And you know this little queen couldn’t resist donning a royal pink tutu to check it all out!

Oh, speaking of tutus, darling, have I told you about my new “tutu swap” project? Well, here’s the thing. I travel a lot, I'm always seeing new styles and trends in drag, so naturally, I get the urge to get all creative with my looks. However, this fab new concept, called a "tutu swap," allows us drag artists to exchange our unique, handcrafted, one-of-a-kind tutus with each other! We can keep each other’s beautiful, pink-tastic creations for a couple of shows then exchange for a fresh, sparkly new piece!

Oh my gosh, you should see the latest tutu creations popping up! I just spotted a “disco ball” inspired tutu at the Expo. Oh, it had everything - a dazzling array of mini mirrored balls that spun as the queen twirled and a cascading waterfall of iridescent pink netting. The queen who made it even used recycled plastic from the Arabian Gulf! It was totally on trend with all the up-cycled drag fashion popping up all over Dubai! Absolutely fabulous, darlings. It's all about sustainable, ethical fashion for our future selves!

Now, about the world of Drag in 2050:

Well, the world’s gone a little wild, darling, and drag has followed suit. Imagine a world where we have virtual reality drag shows, interactive drag-themed games streamed directly into your home, and holographic drag performances beamed into public spaces around the world.

The global stage is just exploding with drag, babes. And that brings me to the heart of this whole adventure, why we do this, what keeps us going: Community. It's the essence of Drag! It's the shared space for expression, for acceptance, for the sheer joy of embracing what makes us different, unique, and fabulous. The Dubai Expo was full of diverse talent from all over the world – trans women, men, people from various communities – sharing their stories and talent.

The diversity of expression just keeps growing every day. And you know me, I absolutely love it! More than ever before, the world is ready to welcome, celebrate, and champion all forms of drag. We are living in a truly golden age for Drag. This is a new era where Drag is about expressing yourself and taking risks to create your own authentic self.

In 2050, darling, it seems as if everyone wants to experience drag! The sheer energy, excitement, and love felt at this Dubai Expo reminded me why I travel all over the world in my pink tutu, why I wear my heart on my sleeve, why I wear my passion for this amazing art form. I want the whole world to experience this magic, to celebrate our individuality and spread the love!

Now, if you’re new to this world of glitter and glamour, here’s what you need to know about the must-see moments from this crazy wonderful month in history:

  1. The Big Bang of Drag:

This year in 2050 was huge, because for the first time in history, the International Olympic Committee made Drag an officially recognized competitive sport! Now, I know what you're thinking, “Emma, is Drag a sport?!” It was such a controversial decision for the Committee to consider because it meant creating a special “Drag Sport” section for drag queen/kings athletes to compete. Imagine it – high-flying lip-synch performances, synchronized fashion changing, and death-defying hair extensions being swapped out at lightning speed – all within a few minutes on a grand scale!

I’ll let you in on a secret, darlings – you can always count on my favourite Drag Queen, LaLa Love, for the most daring performance, so when it came to this big, big moment in Drag History – LaLa dominated! She even pulled off a “hair-tumbling-waterfall” where she released thousands of fake white strands into the crowd in the middle of her show – a performance for the ages, absolute magic. It’s definitely an image that won’t fade into history quickly, so prepare to get ready to embrace this new and glorious era for drag sports.

  2. New Queer Film in the UK:

Now this was a treat! I travelled over to the UK, my home base, for this event, which was hosted at The Royal Albert Hall, a stunning landmark, absolutely fitting for this fabulous premiere! I mean, darling, this was THE event to attend, for Drag Queens, Kings, and Drag Enthusists everywhere.

This stunning queer film was all about a Drag King with a voice for a god – I'm not joking, darling, they were so gifted! I saw this drag king do a capella during the post-screening, and all I can say is – I literally stood with my jaw dropped to the floor. The whole movie centred around this character who had a rare gift - he had the ability to see, hear, and smell everything through other people’s memories, which, I can tell you now, made for an extraordinary journey through a lot of emotions and a few hilarious moments too.

  3. Virtual Reality Drag Shows on Metaverse:

This incredible event has shaken up how we watch and engage with Drag shows! It’s truly the future of Drag! This was the world’s first global Virtual Reality drag show performed on a virtual stage on the Metaverse! What can I say about this that’ll capture it fully? Imagine, we’re on the stage, but not on a real stage! We’re performing for a giant crowd of avatars - all in this amazing digital space, just moving to the music, creating this surreal reality of glamour, colour and sound, that literally took my breath away! And this performance just got better and better! We’re living the Drag Revolution with new forms of entertainment that’ll make your mind go ‘boom boom'!

  4. Drag Royalty: “The Drag King’s Speech”

This historical event still gets me excited. All across the world, we saw more drag Kings coming into the mainstream than ever before! You might remember the historic news a couple of years back, where the first-ever Drag King, Alexander DeVere, won the world championship, well this incredible event took that story to an entirely new level!

Drag royalty gathered in London. And during a ceremony honouring The Duke and Duchess of York ( yes, we're going that regal, darling,!), we got to witness the most incredible speech! A Drag King addressed a Royal Court with an emotional message on inclusivity, community and accepting who you are! This wasn’t a performance, it wasn't a speech about entertainment - this was a true call to action, an historical moment that proved drag kings, and queens, have become mainstream voices in our society! Talk about inspiring the next generation of drag stars!

  5. The Rise of Drag Couture: Sustainability & Ethical Design

This is such a big movement now! Remember the Tutu Swap I told you about? It's an example of the creativity happening right now - people looking for new, exciting, and more eco-conscious ways of designing and making amazing fashion! A drag queen’s artistry can create so much – a fantastic vision! And seeing more and more queens and kings coming up with amazing green-design projects with fabrics and accessories that aren’t hurting our planet has made a huge impact in the drag world!

Now this movement's not slowing down! At the Drag Expo, I was stunned to find a “Drag Eco Fashion Challenge.” With teams of drag queens and kings creating designs from recycled materials and materials that were biodegradable - you really have to admire these artists who aren't compromising the artistic beauty and expression, while also protecting our planet, so I was so proud to be part of the awards show!

**As you can see, darlings, drag has blossomed into an international sensation. A wave of talent, creativity and acceptance sweeping the world – and I’m at the front of it in my sparkly pink tutu, soaking up every incredible moment. We are part of a glorious future, and it all starts with our commitment to self-expression, our communities, and of course, a whole lot of glitter!

What does April 2050 hold for you darlings? Let’s keep celebrating the future of Drag and let the #DragQueenHistory unfold! Don’t forget to share your Drag dreams with me - you can comment right here or find me on the pinktutu-gram at @emmapinktutu.

I'm off to pack for my next trip in the magic pink tutu, and hopefully find some new, stunning tutus to add to my collection. I hope you’re all as excited as I am for all the magic Drag will bring in the future!

Till next month, stay sparkly!
