Pink Tutu Time Travel: #DragQueenHistory, November 2051

Hiya darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire-born drag queen blogger, Emma, back with another sparkling instalment of Pink Tutu Time Travel! This month, I've had the absolute pleasure of jet-setting (in my trusty magical pink tutu, of course!) all the way to November 2051! It’s blog post #1583 for those of you counting (I know some of you love your spreadsheets!).

Now, you're probably wondering what fabulous adventures I got up to in the 21st century. Let me tell you, darlings, it was an absolutely electric time. As I zipped through the swirling rainbow of possibilities that is the time-space continuum (it’s like a much fancier version of the London underground, really!), I found myself smack-dab in the middle of some truly incredible drag history.

A Peek Into the Future of Drag

Firstly, let’s talk fashion. Did you know that in 2051, sequins are STILL HUGE? You just can't go wrong with a good sparkly look, that's for sure! And bless the futuristic fabric designers for introducing the 'Bouncy-Tex' material – think feathers, but much more bounce and sass. The fashion was extravagant (of course, darlings, it wouldn't be the future of drag otherwise!), but with a definite nod to sustainability. Think recycled glitter, reused costumes, and upcycled old glory! They’ve really made the planet's well-being a part of the scene.

Moving onto the performances, there was a distinct shift in the focus from the traditional theatrical stage to more community-based events. Lots of incredible shows happened in repurposed factories and renovated warehouses – perfect places for larger-than-life productions.

For my first stop in the future, I waltzed into a "Drag & Dine" night at a bustling food market in London (you all know London loves a good market!). It was a veritable kaleidoscope of talent: fierce makeup, spectacular fashion, and a dazzling array of lip-syncs to some killer future-pop remixes (even I didn't recognise them – time really does warp your musical memory, darlings!). They even had an AI-powered light show controlled by the crowd’s enthusiasm – how very avant-garde, non?

Time Travelling in My Magical Tutu

My second trip in the month took me to a vibrant Drag Expo in Tokyo, a whole day dedicated to the world of drag. I found myself enthralled by the diversity of the acts: from the stunning, high-fashion ballet performances of House of Kamiya (I nearly cried at the sheer beauty, honestly!) to the comedic stylings of the legendary Tokio Tsuki (it took me a good 20 minutes to stop giggling, her impressions were that good!). I even stumbled upon a fascinating interactive installation about the evolution of drag throughout history, with digital projections that really brought the stories to life.

It wasn't all shows and spectacle, though, darlings. As any drag queen knows, shopping is a must when you’re on the go! And where better to indulge your love of sparkly, shimmery things than a Drag Emporium, dedicated to all things drag? I mean, you can’t tell me you haven’t fantasized about walking into a place crammed to the brim with every makeup palette imaginable, all the wigs imaginable, all the glitter and feathers, the whole shebang. Dreams do come true, darlings!

The emporium was a paradise of creativity – with everything from glittery bodysuits to digital makeup app tutorials, you name it! You can get anything you need for a full-on drag performance – minus the magical pink tutu, unfortunately. I did find a very nice, limited edition "Emma Pink Tutu" collection by some futuristic designer in neon pink. You can imagine how delighted that made me.

And, of course, what is a journey through time without indulging in some scrumptious food and delightful gossip with local queens? In Paris, I went to a “Drag & Cocktails” night at the most swanky, pink-themed drag bar imaginable. It’s called Paris Pink, which seems pretty self-explanatory. And let me tell you, they have a killer drag brunch – even my time travelling stomach couldn't resist the allure of crĂȘpes, fluffy pastries, and bottomless bubbly. It was the ultimate drag brunch, and trust me, they’ve certainly upped their drag brunch game.

It’s the Future, Baby!

The one thing that stood out to me during my November 2051 adventure was the sense of global community. Drag has evolved into an even more inclusive, connected experience, bridging cultural boundaries with its message of self-expression and acceptance. It's something that gives me hope for the future, because if the world is anything like what I saw, then we are headed in the right direction, towards a world where everyone feels empowered to embrace their uniqueness and individuality, glitter and all!

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the future of drag. Now, remember, you don’t need a magical pink tutu to be a part of this amazing world. Go out, experiment, play with your looks, and be yourself. We need you to be you, with all your uniqueness and sass, shining like a pink glitter bomb across the universe.

Until next month, darlings! Keep your tutus sparkling, your spirits high, and stay fab!

With love and glitter, Emma
